Hearing Lucas say that made Aurora feel a pang of guilt. After all this time, she had never once met his parents, and for him to suddenly bring it up caught her completely off guard. But she also knew things couldn’t go on like this.
After hesitating, Aurora said, “Maybe I should meet them after all. I’ll ask the director when filming begins?” She felt that if Lucas were to ask himself, her own identity would be exposed. “I understand what you mean now. So even though you know my identity, you don’t want to use my background to win these projects, is that right?”
Aurora answered without hesitation, “Of course. What’s yours is yours, what’s mine is mine. We can’t mix the two together. Besides, if I relied on you, then kept saying I wanted to fulfill my own dream, wouldn’t that be laughable?”
Lucas saw the determination in her eyes and didn’t press further. “Alright then, I just hope the timing doesn’t clash.”
Aurora asked, “Why is that?”
“Because I want you to meet my parents early. Before, I was thoughtless.” A trace of regret clouded Lucas’ gaze. “It’s my fault that you were kept in the dark for so long. They’re right; when I think about it, I really didn’t show you enough respect.”
Aurora’s lips parted slightly in surprise. She hadn’t expected that Lucas’ father had thought through things in such detail. At first, she thought this was simply the Carter family’s rule. They had gotten the marriage certificate, and after that, there was nothing more. Besides, their marriage was a flash one, so she hadn’t taken it to heart.
But now, it seemed it wasn’t that she didn’t care—it was that Lucas hadn’t valued it from the start. Sensing the shift in Aurora’s expression, Lucas quickly explained, “It’s not that I didn’t care. There were reasons at the time. I’ll make it up to you, one step at a time. In my heart, you’re the most important.”
Aurora said nothing. She gave a soft laugh. “I’ll call the director and ask when filming begins. I can’t leave the studio just yet.”
“Alright. Let me know once you have an answer.” Lucas’ expression grew serious. “I respect all your decisions. If there’s anything, you can always tell me.”
“Don’t worry, it’ll be fine.”
Ever since learning Lucas’ identity, Aurora felt she no longer dared to be seen with him too often in public. If people found out who Lucas really was, wouldn’t they all assume she was using him to gain access to higher circles? Aurora stepped out onto the balcony and called the director. He saw it was Aurora’s number and answered quickly. He had a fairly good impression of her.
“Miss Walton, calling me at this hour—what’s the matter?”
