Chapter 381

Lucas was caught off guard by that statement. At a time like this, Aurora wasn’t by Grace’s side but had gone somewhere else? That left only two possibilities–either Aurora didn’t know about what had happened to Grace, or she was somehow the reason behind it.

Lucas stared at his phone, his eyes dark and unreadable. No matter which it was, he only had one thought now–he needed to get to Aurora immediately. She needed him. And she shouldn’t have to face any of this alone. With that thought, Lucas dialed her number right away.

But after a few rings, the call went unanswered.

The moment the call cut off on its own, Lucas felt a sharp jolt in his chest. He knew exactly what that likely meant. He stood up at once. “Get the car. We’re going to Walton Corporation.”

“Yes, sir.”

Desmond was momentarily stunned by Lucas‘ sudden movement but quickly came back to his senses. There was no stopping Lucas when he was like this. Better to just go along–it was more efficient for everyone involved. “Mr. Carter, should I come with you?”

Lucas paused for just a second before responding. “No. She knows you.”

Hearing that, Desmond could only swallow back his offer to accompany him. “Understood. Then please be careful on your own.”

Lucas let out a low “Mm” and strode toward the door without hesitation.

He couldn’t rest easy knowing Aurora was out there alone. Since he couldn’t reach her by phone, he would go straight to Walton Corporation to find her.

Even if Aurora had found out about what happened, Lucas was sure she would’ve gone straight back to Walton Corporation. He didn’t know why, but he had this unshakable confidence about it.

Meanwhile, on Aurora’s end, the reason she missed Lucas‘ call was because, after getting off the phone with Leonard, her mind had gone completely blank. She didn’t know how to react at all. If Grace had really ended up in the hospital because of her, Aurora wouldn’t be able to forgive herself. No matter what, Grace was her biological mother–how could she do something like that to her? Wouldn’t that make her worse than a beast?

With that thought, Aurora immediately called her mother’s assistant. She needed to know exactly what had happened. The assistant was at the hospital, keeping watch by Grace’s bedside. When he saw Aurora’s name on the screen, his first instinct was to glance at Tessa, who was sitting on the other side.

Catching his look, Tessa frowned. “What is it? If it’s a call, just answer it. Why are you looking at me like that?”

“I…”

Tessa narrowed her eyes at his hesitation. Something felt off. “What is it? Was that call from Aurora?”

The assistant lowered his head, not saying a word. But his silence said it all. Tessa scoffed and abruptly stood up. Without a second thought, she snatched the phone from his hand, muttering under her breath, “Unbelievable. Mom’s been sick for this long, and now she finally decides to call? Where’s she been all this time?”

The assistant watched helplessly as the phone landed in Tessa’s hands, anxiety twisting in his chest.
