Chapter 381

Lucas was caught off guard by that statement. At a time like this, Aurora wasnโ€™t by Graceโ€™s side but had gone somewhere else? That left only two possibilitiesโ€“either Aurora didnโ€™t know about what had happened to Grace, or she was somehow the reason behind it.

Lucas stared at his phone, his eyes dark and unreadable. No matter which it was, he only had one thought nowโ€“he needed to get to Aurora immediately. She needed him. And she shouldnโ€™t have to face any of this alone. With that thought, Lucas dialed her number right away.

But after a few rings, the call went unanswered.

The moment the call cut off on its own, Lucas felt a sharp jolt in his chest. He knew exactly what that likely meant. He stood up at once. โ€œGet the car. Weโ€™re going to Walton Corporation.โ€

โ€œYes, sir.โ€

Desmond was momentarily stunned by Lucasโ€˜ sudden movement but quickly came back to his senses. There was no stopping Lucas when he was like this. Better to just go alongโ€“it was more efficient for everyone involved. โ€œMr. Carter, should I come with you?โ€

Lucas paused for just a second before responding. โ€œNo. She knows you.โ€

Hearing that, Desmond could only swallow back his offer to accompany him. โ€œUnderstood. Then please be careful on your own.โ€

Lucas let out a low โ€œMmโ€ and strode toward the door without hesitation.

He couldnโ€™t rest easy knowing Aurora was out there alone. Since he couldnโ€™t reach her by phone, he would go straight to Walton Corporation to find her.

Even if Aurora had found out about what happened, Lucas was sure she wouldโ€™ve gone straight back to Walton Corporation. He didnโ€™t know why, but he had this unshakable confidence about it.

Meanwhile, on Auroraโ€™s end, the reason she missed Lucasโ€˜ call was because, after getting off the phone with Leonard, her mind had gone completely blank. She didnโ€™t know how to react at all. If Grace had really ended up in the hospital because of her, Aurora wouldnโ€™t be able to forgive herself. No matter what, Grace was her biological motherโ€“how could she do something like that to her? Wouldnโ€™t that make her worse than a beast?

With that thought, Aurora immediately called her motherโ€™s assistant. She needed to know exactly what had happened. The assistant was at the hospital, keeping watch by Graceโ€™s bedside. When he saw Auroraโ€™s name on the screen, his first instinct was to glance at Tessa, who was sitting on the other side.

Catching his look, Tessa frowned. โ€œWhat is it? If itโ€™s a call, just answer it. Why are you looking at me like that?โ€

โ€œIโ€ฆโ€

Tessa narrowed her eyes at his hesitation. Something felt off. โ€œWhat is it? Was that call from Aurora?โ€

The assistant lowered his head, not saying a word. But his silence said it all. Tessa scoffed and abruptly stood up. Without a second thought, she snatched the phone from his hand, muttering under her breath, โ€œUnbelievable. Momโ€™s been sick for this long, and now she finally decides to call? Whereโ€™s she been all this time?โ€

The assistant watched helplessly as the phone landed in Tessaโ€™s hands, anxiety twisting in his chest.
