โThis is really ruining the mood. If I get upset, who knows what might slip out of my mouth?โ The implication couldnโt have been more obvious.
Lucas wasnโt stupid. He knew exactly what Wendy meant, but he didnโt indulge her. He replied flatly, โWe agreed you will keep quiet after this meal.โ
โThatโs not what I meant when I said it,โ Wendy retorted, playing games with words and twisting the meaning. Lucas grew even more annoyed.
He stood up and walked straight out, tossing back, โYou eat by yourself. Iโve got work to deal with at the office.โ
He absolutely hated being threatened, and Wendy had guts.
Wendy stared at his back for a moment, stunned, but soon let it go.
It didnโt matter. Like turning up the heat just a notch at a time, she figured that with enough patience, sheโd eventually work her way into Lucasโ heart. She had no idea where her confidence came from, but she believed plenty of people out there liked what they had together.
If Aurora ever found out what Wendy was thinking, sheโd probably clap and laugh in her face. She and Joseph โ those two narcissists โ were honestly a perfect match.
Even though the lunch ended on a sour note, Wendy had achieved her goal. She scrolled through her photo album, eyeing the pictures she took with Lucas, then raised a brow, deciding to send them to Aurora when the time was right. After all, those photos were perfect for getting under Auroraโs skin. As long as Aurora was miserable, Wendy was happy. Her resentment toward Aurora had reached a new level.
Meanwhile, at the restaurant, Aurora suddenly sneezed โ so unexpectedly that Leonard was left completely confused.
โWhatโs wrong? Are you catching a cold?โ
โNo, just a bit of a sore throat,โ Aurora answered with mock seriousness. โBesides, I have this strong feeling someoneโs talking behind my back.โ
โSeriously?โ Leonard blinked. He actually believed in things like that, and it was rare to see Aurora showing this much expression. It was almost odd.
โI mean it. Ever since we got here, that feelingโs just been getting stronger.โ
Leonard glanced around suspiciously, trying to look serious, but didnโt notice anything out of the ordinary.
โYouโre probably overthinking it. Everyone around seems normal to me. Nothing unusual.โ
Chapter 466
โHopefully, youโre right.โ
With the meeting approaching, Aurora certainly didnโt want anyone screwing things up.
What she didnโt know was that someone had secretly taken photos of them during lunch and sold them for a high price. After the meal, the two of them headed off to discuss follow-up business with a client. With Leonard, the overseas graduate, at her side, Aurora felt much more confident during negotiations.
Leonard watched her glowing with brilliance and couldnโt help but think how dazzling she looked. It was true โ nothing was more attractive than a woman focused on her work.
Still, he had come too late. A single misstep, and the whole game was lost. He shouldโve realized that sooner. It was his timing and the place where heโd shown up that gave Lucas the opening he needed.
Butโฆ
As Leonard watched Aurora still deep in negotiation, his thoughts drifted. Were he and Aurora truly right for each other?
