“This is really ruining the mood. If I get upset, who knows what might slip out of my mouth?” The implication couldn’t have been more obvious.

Lucas wasn’t stupid. He knew exactly what Wendy meant, but he didn’t indulge her. He replied flatly, “We agreed you will keep quiet after this meal.”

“That’s not what I meant when I said it,” Wendy retorted, playing games with words and twisting the meaning. Lucas grew even more annoyed.

He stood up and walked straight out, tossing back, “You eat by yourself. I’ve got work to deal with at the office.”

He absolutely hated being threatened, and Wendy had guts.

Wendy stared at his back for a moment, stunned, but soon let it go.

It didn’t matter. Like turning up the heat just a notch at a time, she figured that with enough patience, she’d eventually work her way into Lucas’ heart. She had no idea where her confidence came from, but she believed plenty of people out there liked what they had together.

If Aurora ever found out what Wendy was thinking, she’d probably clap and laugh in her face. She and Joseph – those two narcissists – were honestly a perfect match.

Even though the lunch ended on a sour note, Wendy had achieved her goal. She scrolled through her photo album, eyeing the pictures she took with Lucas, then raised a brow, deciding to send them to Aurora when the time was right. After all, those photos were perfect for getting under Aurora’s skin. As long as Aurora was miserable, Wendy was happy. Her resentment toward Aurora had reached a new level.

Meanwhile, at the restaurant, Aurora suddenly sneezed – so unexpectedly that Leonard was left completely confused.

“What’s wrong? Are you catching a cold?”

“No, just a bit of a sore throat,” Aurora answered with mock seriousness. “Besides, I have this strong feeling someone’s talking behind my back.”

“Seriously?” Leonard blinked. He actually believed in things like that, and it was rare to see Aurora showing this much expression. It was almost odd.

“I mean it. Ever since we got here, that feeling’s just been getting stronger.”

Leonard glanced around suspiciously, trying to look serious, but didn’t notice anything out of the ordinary.

“You’re probably overthinking it. Everyone around seems normal to me. Nothing unusual.”

“Hopefully, you’re right.”

With the meeting approaching, Aurora certainly didn’t want anyone screwing things up.

What she didn’t know was that someone had secretly taken photos of them during lunch and sold them for a high price. After the meal, the two of them headed off to discuss follow-up business with a client. With Leonard, the overseas graduate, at her side, Aurora felt much more confident during negotiations.

Leonard watched her glowing with brilliance and couldn’t help but think how dazzling she looked. It was true – nothing was more attractive than a woman focused on her work.

Still, he had come too late. A single misstep, and the whole game was lost. He should’ve realized that sooner. It was his timing and the place where he’d shown up that gave Lucas the opening he needed.
