Chapter 604

โ€œIn the middle of the day?โ€ Josephโ€™s voice was laced with suspicion.

Judy gave a light cough, feigning a bit of embarrassment. โ€œWell, itโ€™s your fault, isnโ€™t it?โ€

That only confused Joseph more. What did she mean by that? He hadnโ€™t done anything.

Besides, heโ€™d been busy handling follow-ups the moment he left; he hadnโ€™t had the time to bother her about anything. She was the one who hadnโ€™t picked up his calls, and now she was still making excuses. That realization irritated him. He felt like Judy was deliberately avoiding the truth, lying to cover something up. Was she seriously trying to shift the blame back onto him at this point?

โ€œWhatโ€™s that supposed to mean? Are you just trying to mess with me now?โ€ Joseph asked directly, determined to hear what excuse sheโ€™d come up with next.

Judy didnโ€™t even hesitate. โ€œWhat do you think? You wore me out. We went at it so long, my body couldnโ€™t take it. I finally managed to get some rest, and then you kept calling. Iโ€™d just dozed off when your phone blew up again. If it were you, wouldnโ€™t you be annoyed too?โ€

At that, Josephโ€™s anger doused itself like a fire hit with cold water. She did have a point. If it had been him in that situation, heโ€™d be mad too. Who wouldnโ€™t be annoyed at having their sleep interrupted?

His tone softened noticeably. โ€œJudyโ€ฆ are you really telling the truth?โ€

โ€œOf course I am!โ€ Judy said firmly, full of conviction. โ€œWhy would I lie to you? Iโ€™m being honest here. Why would you even think Iโ€™m not? If thatโ€™s how you feel, then so be it. I canโ€™t hold onto a heart that was never with me to begin with.โ€

Joseph instinctively began apologizing. โ€œIโ€™m sorry, Judy. Itโ€™s my fault. I wonโ€™t do it again. Donโ€™t worry, from now on, I wonโ€™t jump to the worst conclusions.โ€

Judy didnโ€™t bother asking what exactly he meant by โ€œthe worst conclusions.โ€ Her gaze drifted to Kenneth, who was now slowly walking toward her. He had thrown on a coat, but his chest remained bare, casually exposed. Just the sight of him sent a wave of heat rushing through her. This manโ€ฆ no wonder heโ€™d spent so many years abroadโ€”she was satisfied with him in every way. In that regard, he was miles ahead of Joseph.

As Kenneth approached, his eyes glinted with unspoken intent, silently asking: Ready for round two? Judyโ€™s smile deepened.

Joseph probably never imagined that his suspicions had actually been right on the mark. But because he chose to trust her, he hadnโ€™t followed that line of thought.

With a sugary-sweet look directed at Kenneth, Judy said lightly, โ€œGood. Thatโ€™s how it should be. Donโ€™t overthink next time. You should trust me. Thatโ€™s what really matters.โ€

Before Joseph could say anything else, she added quickly, โ€œAlright, Iโ€™ve got something to deal with. Letโ€™s talk later.โ€ Then she ended the call.

Joseph stared at the dark screen, frowning in confusion. What just happened? Why did she hang up so fast? This wasnโ€™t like the Judy he knew.
