Chapter 631

But now, Leonard finally realized the gap between him and Lucas was far wider than he'd thought.

Faced with Leonardโ€™s question, Megan didnโ€™t really know how to respond. She gave a vague cough, trying to brush it off.

โ€œWellโ€ฆ Iโ€™m not sure how to explain it exactly.โ€ She hesitated, then added, โ€œJust remember thisโ€“my cousin isnโ€™t the most patient guy. Donโ€™t push his buttons.โ€

She kept the part about โ€œor you will regret itโ€ to herself. Those people from earlier were a perfect example. After being kicked out, they probably wouldnโ€™t be allowed back in the hospital at all. That much, Megan knew without a doubt.

Meanwhile, Tessa and Julian were watching from the shadows, having witnessed everything, including the way the hospital director treated Lucas with such visible deference. Tessaโ€™s heart tightened. Her brother-in-law was clearly not an ordinary man. The thought made her slowly clench her fists.

That bitch Aurora really played her cards well. She never once mentioned anything about this. Who wouldโ€™ve thought her husband turned out to be someone so powerful?

Even Julian looked rattled after seeing what just happened. โ€œYour sisterโ€™s husbandโ€ฆ who exactly is he?โ€ he asked nervously.

Tessa rolled her eyes. This man was completely useless. All he did was panic and ask questions. What else was he good for? All these years, and at the first sign of trouble he still ran crying to his mom? Tessa never got along with his mother, who was spineless and always nitpicking, and never would. It didnโ€™t matter how much time had passed; she still couldnโ€™t stand the woman. Something about the way she spoke always rubbed her the wrong way. There was no saving that kind of in-law relationship, and Tessa didnโ€™t even need to think twice about it. Sheโ€™d seen enough cautionary talesโ€“on TV and social media. Even if she hadnโ€™t lived through it, sheโ€™d watched enough to know how ugly it could get. Given Julianโ€™s personality, she could already picture what kind of nightmare marriage would be. That was why she kept stalling. She needed to find someone better.

Wasting time on him wasnโ€™t part of her plan.

When Julian asked her that question, she didnโ€™t know how to answer. She rubbed her nose awkwardly and said, โ€œIโ€™m not sure. I mean, you know how things were between me and Aurora. Sheโ€™d never tell me anything personal, let alone something like this.โ€

Julian thought about it and had to agree that it made sense. Asking Tessa really was a waste of time. It was not like she could offer any useful insight anyway.

Still, they hadnโ€™t forgotten why they were here in the first place. Julian gave Tessa a look and nodded toward the patient room, lowering his voice. โ€œSo, how do we get inside for the injection?โ€

That was exactly what Tessa had been worrying about. With the way Lucas was guarding that room around the clock, there was no way they were getting in.
