Chapter 12
"Is this how Isabella loves me?" Jayden wondered. If Isabella had told him earlier, he wouldn't have had to seek out Carl. He'd endured so much trouble just to get Carl on board.
Isabella found Jayden laughable. "What right does he have to question me?" she thought.
Seeing Darryl's gesture, Connor quickly intervened to ease the tension. "Mr. Logue, please don't be upset. Dr. Lovett has her reasons for not wanting to explain."
Darryl then turned to George, trying to calm him down. "Mr. Sampson, please calm down to avoid upsetting everyone."
Isabella didn't spare him a glance; she simply looked up at Darryl and said calmly, "Mr. Cox, the treatment for today is over. I'll be leaving now."
Darryl immediately stepped forward with a bright smile. "Dr. Lovett, Mr. Sampson, I'll arrange for someone to take you both."
George, in a sour mood, forced a smile. "No need, we drove here. We'll see you next time."
Darryl nodded eagerly. "Alright, we'll be in touch."
They exchanged no more words, and George and Isabella headed toward the elevator. Jayden's gaze remained fixed on Isabella, filled with unreadable emotions. As they were about to disappear around the corner, he hurried after them.
Ivana, suddenly anxious, called out, "Jayden, where are you going?"
Jayden didn't respond; he showed no signs of slowing down. Ivana ground her teeth in frustration and stomped her foot. "That wretched Isabella! If it weren't for her, how could I have been so humiliated today? Jayden has abandoned me!" she thought.
Inside the elevator, Isabella stood beside George. She kept her gaze downcast, her emotions noticeably cold.
George looked at her, trying to soothe her. "You need to calm down. As long as I'm here, I won't let them disturb you again."
Isabella forced a smile. "Today was probably just an accident. I doubt I'll run into any issues when I treat Xavier again."
George nodded, then asked, "What's Xavier's situation now?"
Isabella glanced up at the floor numbers, her expression relaxed. "He can be completely cured, but it's a bit complicated and will take time."
George smiled, appearing relaxed. "That's fine; as long as he can be cured, that's what matters." He leaned against the elevator wall, exuding confidence. "I told you, you're the only one for this. After two years away, you make such a stunning comeback. You really are remarkable!"
Isabella had no special thoughts on this. Her return was merely to avoid being entangled in love. After loving Jayden for ten years, she'd realized a career was more important than romance.
Seeing Isabella silent, George reined in his expression and said softly, "Have you really moved on?"
Isabella understood perfectly. She smiled slightly, meeting George's gaze confidently. "Of course." If she hadn't let go by now, she would truly be foolish.
George studied her calm demeanor with a hint of curiosity. "Do you regret loving him?"
Isabella hesitated, noticing George's concern. She forced a smile. "You don't need to worry so much. Now that I've made my decision, I won't regret it. After all these years, I've never mentioned breaking up. Now that I have, there's no turning back." She was tired.
George sighed with relief. Knowing her for so long, he really didn't want to see her suffer for that man without getting anything in return.
But then, George chuckled. "That's great. Did you see their expressions just now?"
Isabella looked at him, puzzled. "Expressions? Didn't they just question and scold me?"
"Not at all!" George exclaimed, excitement bubbling in his voice. "I was watching closely. As soon as I revealed your identity, they were both stunned. Especially Jayden! His expression changed multiple times."
Isabella was taken aback. Although Jayden didn't treat her well, he always maintained a composed public image. Plus, as a top actor, he was skilled at controlling his emotions. If it weren't for George's reputation for honesty, she might have doubted him.
George became more excited, leaning closer. "Now that Jayden knows your identity, he must be regretting it! You're the daughter of the Stout family and now you're Queenie. Just look at Ivana, the one he chose. All Ivana ever did was cry. What's the use of that?"
George acted like a giddy girl, raising his hands and looking at Isabella with admiration, even tweaking his voice as he imitated Ivana. Isabella couldn't help but burst into laughter.
She shook her head, but as she was about to say something, George looked at her expectantly. "Just watch; if he's not a total idiot, he'll definitely try to get back with you."
With one hand on his chin, he grinned. "If he dares to do that, I'll drag him to the woods and give him a good beating."
Isabella laughed again. "Don't worry, I won't get back together with him." She was already married, and even if she weren't, she wouldn't go back. It was enough to fall for him once. She had been serious about their relationship and given her heart sincerely, but now she didn't want to love him anymore. There was no way she would go back to the past. However, thinking about her infatuation for him still brought a sharp pain to her heart. Jayden had suggested more than once that they sleep together, but she believed the most beautiful moments should be saved for their wedding night. She never expected Jayden would turn around and be with Ivana. He had only sought fleeting pleasures. Perhaps she had been too conservative.
George playfully flicked stray hairs off his forehead, grinning with a hint of mockery. "That's good! I was really worried when I saw you two together; I thought you might get emotionally unstable and reignite old feelings for him." If that happened, he wouldn't be able to resist punching that scoundrel. He had thought Jayden was something special, but it seemed he wasn't worth Isabella's time at all.
Isabella lowered her gaze to hide the pain in her eyes, then lifted her head, her expression light and relieved. "There's nothing about him that's worth holding on to."
George let out a sigh of relief and nudged Isabella with his elbow, laughing heartily. "That's the Queenie I know!" The Queenie who stood at the pinnacle had returned.
