Chapter 7
Ivana shook her head. “Of course not! I’m just curious. I’m worried that driving for so long might be too tiring for you, especially since you’ll have to stay up late for the shoot. I… I care about you.”
As she spoke, Ivana shyly lowered her head. Her slightly flushed face looked so sweet that anyone would want to kiss her.
Jayden laughed. “No way! I’m not that weak.”
Ivana’s eyes sparkled as she smiled at him. “Jayden, after Xavier got sick, many people avoided the Cox family, but you came to visit him anyway. You’re a truly good friend!”
Jayden was flattered. “Of course, Xavier is my friend. I even found him a very famous doctor. We’re going to pick him up now.”
Jayden’s grip on the steering wheel tightened. Only he knew this was necessary to work with the Cox family, despite his own fear of Xavier, who had become a bloodthirsty monster.
The admiration in Ivana’s eyes deepened, and a hint of pride showed on her playful face. She was delighted that such a good man was hers.
Secretly, she gently intertwined her fingers with his and softly said, “Jayden, you’re amazing.”
Jayden squeezed her hand, his eyes showing more affection as he said in a raspy voice, “Ivana, you little gremlin.”
Ivana’s cheeks flushed red, and she instantly remembered how he had called her that in bed. She gave Jayden a light push and said shyly, “Oh, Jayden, you’re so annoying!”
Jayden tightened his grip on her hand slightly, his lips curving into a smile as he coaxed, “What’s the matter? Don’t like me saying that?”
Ivana kept her head down shyly, nodding slightly and whispering, “I like it…”
Jayden’s hearty laughter echoed in the car.
An hour later, Jayden and Ivana arrived at the hospital with Carl Johnson. Carl was a renowned doctor, both nationally and internationally.
As they approached Xavier’s room, they saw two men at the door—Xavier’s father, Darryl, and Xavier’s assistant, Connor.
Ivana followed Jayden. She had insisted on coming, hoping to network with these influential families and advance her future prospects.
Xavier’s face was clearly worried. He kept glancing at his watch and turning to Connor. “Aren’t they here yet? How long did they say it would take? Have you called to check?”
Connor adjusted his glasses. “Mr. Cox, I’ve already contacted them. They said they’ll be here in about ten minutes.”
Darryl sighed in relief. “Good!”
At that moment, Jayden, Ivana, and Carl approached. Darryl and Connor immediately looked at the trio.
Jayden respectfully greeted them, “Mr. Cox, hello. I’m Jayden.”
Darryl gave him a quick once-over and nodded slightly. “Jayden Logue?”
Jayden nodded, feeling somewhat flattered. “Yes, that’s me. You remember me?”
Ivana stood quietly, eager to make her presence known but too cautious to overstep. Darryl, however, ignored her.
Jayden didn’t notice. He got straight to the point, introducing the doctor. “Mr. Cox, this is Dr. Carl Johnson. He’s incredibly famous in this field and exceptionally skilled. It took me a long time to find him, and I believe he will definitely be able to cure Xavier!”
Jayden stood tall, confident in Carl’s expertise.
However, Darryl glanced at Carl with indifference. Many renowned doctors had already examined Xavier without success. Darryl didn’t believe Carl could do any better.
Darryl smiled faintly. “Thank you, but I have another doctor coming today.”
Jayden froze, feeling uneasy. If Darryl didn’t let Carl treat Xavier, the Cox family wouldn’t owe him any favors, jeopardizing their cooperation.
Looking at Darryl’s careless expression, Jayden forced a smile. “Mr. Cox, since Dr. Johnson is already here, why not let him take a look? Having another doctor analyze the situation can only benefit Xavier.”
He couldn’t let Carl leave without doing anything; he’d persuaded Carl to come after multiple attempts.
Darryl, however, grew displeased. He’d secured Queenie’s visit, and another doctor’s presence could delay the treatment.
His gaze toward Jayden became colder, but out of respect for the Logue family, he responded flatly, “That won’t be necessary. The doctor I’ve invited will be sufficient.”
Carl, who had been waiting, was livid at being ignored. He glared at Jayden and snorted, “If you didn’t need me, why go through all the trouble of inviting me?”
Being dismissed felt like an insult. He believed they were humiliating him.
Jayden’s face paled, but before he could speak, Carl waved his hand angrily. “Don’t ever ask me for help again!”
He stormed out of the hospital.
Darryl watched Carl leave, almost scoffing angrily. “A so-called famous doctor, with such a fragile ego?”
Jayden’s face darkened. Although Carl had a solid reputation, he was just a doctor with no powerful connections—yet more arrogant than anyone.
Jayden’s lips tightened. Ivana, sensing his frustration, quickly stepped forward and blocked Carl’s path, trying to explain. “I’m sorry, Dr. Johnson, that’s not what we meant…”
However, Carl interrupted her sharply. “I’m sorry, but I cannot tolerate such disrespect. I’ll remember what happened today!”
Carl had never been treated like this before and wouldn’t stay.
Jayden’s face darkened further. As the heir to the Logue family, he was used to being revered. Now, this felt like a slap in the face.
Ivana hadn’t expected the situation to escalate. Seeing Jayden upset, she anxiously said, “How could he act like that? Even if he didn’t get to treat Xavier, we already paid him in advance!”
Her words were full of indignation.
Although Jayden was unhappy, he couldn’t lose his temper in front of Darryl, so he forced himself to appear magnanimous. “It’s fine, Ivana, it’s just a minor issue.”
Ivana gazed at Jayden with concern, sighing softly but saying nothing more. Darryl shifted his attention and instructed Connor calmly, “Go and bring the doctor over.”
He ignored Jayden and Ivana and turned toward the elevator, planning to wait for Queenie’s arrival.
Connor, eager to avoid the awkwardness, nodded and followed Darryl.

Chapter 7 (continued)
Jayden stood still, his brows furrowed, now feeling intense displeasure toward the Cox family. He thought that since he’d brought a doctor, Darryl should have at least allowed Carl to examine Xavier out of courtesy. Darryl’s lack of consideration was arrogant.
Ivana tugged gently at Jayden’s sleeve, her voice soft and sweet. “Jayden…”
Jayden clasped her hand, just about to speak, when he noticed the elevator doors opening. His gaze was immediately drawn to the sight.
Two people stepped out. Connor stepped forward and quietly reminded Darryl. “Mr. Cox, they’ve arrived.”
Both Jayden and Ivana were stunned.
