Chapter 92

For some reason, under his gaze, Isabella felt her cheeks heat up lightly. She turned back to Rachana and playfully tapped her on the nose. “You little smartypants.” The things Rachana said were quite something. Rachana just giggled in response.

Sarah, in a fitted brown dress, slowly walked down the stairs, holding the handrail for support. Although she could walk, her joints still felt a bit stiff. Seeing this, Samuel quickly stepped forward to assist her. He furrowed his brows in slight confusion and asked, “Where’s Whitney?” Usually, Whitney had never left her side.

Sarah knew Samuel was worried, so she responded calmly to reassure him. There was a last-minute issue at the office. He’ll be back soon. It’s nothing major, and I wanted to walk by myself.

Rachana hurried over, holding Sarah’s other hand, and reminded her, “Mom, take it slow, okay?” Rachana was very careful, worried that Sarah might fall. She was really such a sweetheart. Sarah looked at Rachana with gentle eyes, wrapped the girl’s hand in her own, and smiled, “Yes, Mommy knows.”

Like a little adult, Rachana noticed a small stool blocking Sarah’s way. She let go of Sarah’s hand and skipped over to move it aside. Then she came back to hold Sarah’s hand again. Every time Isabella saw this scene, her heart would melt. Rachana was just too cute.

By the couch, Samuel helped Sarah sit down. Sarah looked up at Isabella with a hint of unease in her eyes and softly said, “Ms. Stout, please sit down.” Isabella shook her head at Sarah and said, “Let’s finish the last treatment first, and then we can chat.” It was getting late now; we couldn’t let it drag on too long.

Just as Sarah was about to nod, she saw Rachana speedily bringing an apple to Isabella. In a sweet, soft voice, she said, “Auntie, this is for you.” After she called out, she realized Sarah was still there. Rachana sneaked a glance at Sarah, and, seeing she wasn’t told off, her face lit up with a big smile once more.

Isabella took the apple with a gentle smile and said, “Thank you, but I’ll eat it later. I need to take care of Mom first.” Rachana nodded obediently. “Okay,” she replied. Samuel’s gaze rested on Isabella; she seemed to really like children.

Isabella tousled Rachana’s braids, looked up at Sarah, and said softly, “Ms. Howerton, shall we go to the room?” Sarah nodded, and Isabella stood up, passing the apple to Samuel, and said, “Hold this for me.”

Samuel took the apple, holding it in his hand. He turned his eyes to Rachana, only to see her making a funny face at him before running off to watch TV. He raised an eyebrow slightly, his gaze falling on the apple in his hand. Isabella had already turned around, walking towards Sarah. She bent down to help Sarah stand up.

Even though this wasn’t her first treatment, a hint of unease flickered through Sarah’s eyes as she softly said, “Thank you.” She had never really known how to deal with Isabella. But Isabella didn’t care about that at all; she just replied calmly, “You’re welcome.” Sarah kept silent. Suddenly, she was at a loss for words and didn’t know what to say.

Isabella helped her and led her into the room on the first floor. It used to be a guest room, but since Isabella had been coming over to give Sarah acupuncture regularly, it was converted into Sarah’s Treatment room. Inside the room, under a uniquely shaped ceiling light, Isabella pulled back the sky-blue quilt on the bed. She turned to help Sarah sit down on the bed.

Isabella skillfully closed the door and pulled the white curtains, turning on all the lights in the room. When she turned back to the bed, Sarah was already lying down with her dress lifted up. Due to frequent needle treatments, several spots on her legs were bruised. Isabella bent over and gently pressed on the bruised areas. Sarah involuntarily let out a soft gasp, ‘Oww… The spot was still a bit tender.

Isabella frowned slightly and asked Sarah, “Does it hurt?” Sarah’s hand tightened on her skirt hem, but she said calmly, “It’s not too bad.” Isabella carefully examined the bruises before sitting on the edge of the bed, placing her hand gently on Sarah’s wrist to check her pulse.

After a moment, Isabella said, “There’s nothing wrong with your body now. Once we’re done with this session, both your legs should be back to how they were.” Sarah’s eyes shone with excitement. “Really?” Even though Sarah knew Isabella would be able to heal her, she couldn’t help but feel thrilled when she finally got the news. Finally, I wouldn’t have to limp around with this leg anymore.

Sarah felt a deep gratitude towards Isabella, but she didn’t know what to say when she thought about everything that had happened before. Isabella nodded and said, “Yes, for the bruising on your legs. I’ll give you some herbal remedies to soak in after the treatment.” As she spoke, she began to prepare for the treatment.

17:04 Wed, Nov 13.

Chapter 92

Sarah wasn’t too worried about the bruising on her legs. She smiled, shook her head, and said, “It’s fine, as long as my leg can be healed, that’s all that matters to me.” Everything else seemed insignificant to her.

Isabella had finished sterilizing the syringe. She looked at Sarah seriously and said, “A girl’s legs are important; they shouldn’t have scars.” Sarah was caught off guard. She was almost forty, and yet someone was still telling her how important it was not to leave scars on her legs. Her gaze settled on Isabella, with eyes full of complexity, but something was stirring within her heart.

Isabella, however, didn’t say anything more and began to focus carefully on the acupuncture. Sarah was already familiar with this whole procedure. Initially, the pain from the treatment was hard to endure, but now Sarah was used to it.

Once the acupuncture was done, Isabella started massaging her legs. Sarah felt somewhat uneasy and softly said, as she looked at Isabella, “Whitney will be back soon; he can do the massage.” Recently, it was usually Whitney who did the massaging following the treatments. Today was actually the first time Isabella gave her a massage.

Isabella shook her head in refusal. “No need. The acupuncture points changed today, so the massage points had to change too to maximize the effect.” Her focus was solely on the treatment, seemingly unaware of Sarah’s discomfort. Isabella’s dedication made Sarah feel a pang of guilt. Compared to Isabella’s sincerity, Sarah felt she was the one overthinking. Looking at Isabella, Sarah felt even more conflicted.

After a long while, Isabella’s forehead was dotted with tiny beads of sweat. She gradually stopped what she was doing. Isabella pointed to Sarah’s knee. “Move it around a bit and see if you still feel that stiffness.”

Sarah lifted her leg and tried bending it in the air. Her eyes sparkled with surprise. “It’s gone, completely smooth.” Though she could walk before today, every step made her joints feel like they were rusty. But now, that feeling was completely gone.

Isabella nodded. “That’s great. It means it’s fully healed. Have Mr. Ximenes continue the treatment at home.” She instructed and started packing up the syringe.

At this moment, there was a knock on the door. Rat-a-tat…
