Chapter 93
Isabella glanced towards the door and said calmly, “Come in, please.”
The door swung open, revealing Whitney in a gray and white striped suit standing before Isabella. He wore a gentle smile and politely asked, “Ms. Stout, is the treatment done?”
Isabella nodded and turned to look at Sarah. “Yes, I’ve explained the lie precautions to Ms. Howerton. If there’s any discomfort, call me right away.” As she spoke, she had already finished packing up the syringe.
Sarah sat up on the bed. Whitney quickly stepped forward to help her and turned to Isabella with heartfelt thanks. “Thank you so much.” His eyes were filled with irrepressible excitement.
She could tell that Whitney genuinely loved Sarah. It was rare to find such pure feelings in this circle.
Isabella felt a bit moved as well. She looked away, packed her things into her bag, and replied politely, “You’re welcome. It’s just what a doctor should do.”
Sarah looked at Isabella, unsure of what to say, while unconsciously tightening her grip on Whitney’s hand.
Whitney noticed Sarah’s awkwardness, and his smile grew wider. He gently said to Sarah, “Take your time and walk a bit. I’ll hold you.”
Sarah’s thoughts were interrupted. She turned to Whitney and nodded. “Okay.” She then took Whitney’s hand to slowly stand up with his support. She took small steps forward, inch by inch.
After a few steps, Sarah noticed that the stiffness in her joints had completely disappeared, and her face lit up with a delighted smile. “I’m really all better now.”
Whitney was all smiles too as he carefully began to let go of Sarah, letting her walk on her own. Sarah took a couple of steps. Her movements were light and easy, with no need to shuffle.
Tears welled up in her eyes. She turned back to Whitney, a bit choked up, and said, “Whitney, I can really move freely now.”
Only those who had experienced it can understand the fear of losing feeling in their legs. Now, this joy of regaining what was lost was something even the usually tough Sarah couldn’t contain her excitement about.
Whitney laughed as he looked at her, nodding emphatically. The couple embraced each other tightly in excitement.
Isabella smiled faintly, turned to leave the room, and closed the door behind her. This moment was just for the two of them.
At this time, as Isabella came out of the room, she saw Samuel sitting on the living room sofa, working on his phone. Samuel’s long legs were crossed and his body leaned back on the sofa. Despite his relaxed posture, he had a commanding presence. He was steady, reserved, and exuded an aloofness that made him hard to approach.
In this very scene, Rachana, with her hair in two small buns, was sitting cross-legged right next to Samuel. Her big round eyes were glued to the TV, but her tiny hands were busily fiddling with her slightly chubby feet.
She yanked off her pink socks, then turned around to stuff them in Samuel’s face, and exclaimed as if she’d found something amazing. “Uncle, Uncle, Rachana’s socks smell so nice!”
Samuel was speechless. Isabella couldn’t help but smile, thinking that perhaps only Rachana would dare to do such a thing.
With a dark expression, Samuel took the socks off his face, about to lose his temper, when he saw Rachana blinking cutely at him. He let out a light sigh, holding back his anger.
Samuel set his phone aside, stood up, and gently took Rachana’s small foot in his hand. He warned her in a low voice, “Keep your socks on.” Samuel had a strong presence, and whenever he got stern, it frightened Rachana.
Rachana’s lip quivered instantly, and her small face was full of grievance. Tears rolled down her cheeks as she covered her face and cried, “Bad uncle, mean uncle!”
Seeing Rachana cry, Isabella couldn’t bear it anymore. She frowned and walked over, looking at Samuel with displeasure. “Why are you being so harsh to a kid?”
She took the sock from Samuel’s hand and put it back on Rachana’s foot. Samuel’s gaze landed on Isabella, and he was momentarily stunned.
Unexpectedly, Rachana turned around and made a silly face at him. She was clearly doing it on purpose. Samuel’s brow twitched slightly.
At this moment, Sarah and Whitney came out of the room. Samuel’s cool eyes turned to Sarah, and he said softly, “Sarah, I signed Rachana up for the Genius International Mental Math class.”
Sarah paused, looking at Samuel with some confusion. “Huh, didn’t you say you wouldn’t sign her up before?” She had mentioned it once, and Samuel just said kids should have a childhood.
Sarah thought, Why does he take the initiative to enroll Rachana in classes?
Sarah looked at Whitney in confusion, but he just shrugged, showing he didn’t know. Samuel held his phone while continuing with work and said calmly, “Kids should read more books.”
Rachana, however, glared at Samuel with her big round eyes, her chubby little hands folded across her chest. “Hmph, bad uncle,” said Rachana.
Rachana thought, Why does Uncle get back at me?
Isabella watched the whole scene, trying not to laugh. She moved closer to Samuel and whispered, “Mr. Howerton, that’s not very good for your image.”
Samuel looked up at Isabella without saying a word, but his mouth turned up slightly. Sarah saw the reactions of the two and had an idea of the situation. She couldn’t help but shake her head and smile gently at Rachana’s pouty face. She was fully aware that her uncle was not someone to mess with, yet she did it anyway.
Rachana sat in Isabella’s lap, watching TV, almost taking up all of her space. Samuel was chatting with Whitney about the company, and before long, an hour had passed.
When it was time to eat, Rachana’s eyes sparkled with excitement, and she quickly got off Isabella. She dashed towards the dining room on her little legs. “Time to eat!” Rachana stopped halfway and looked back at Isabella, waving her chubby little hand. “Auntie, come and eat.”
Seeing that Isabella hadn’t caught up, she ran back, grabbed Isabella’s hand, and started pulling her towards the dining room. Isabella’s heart turned into a puddle of softness. Having Rachana in the house made everything feel livelier and cozier.
Whitney chuckled as he teased his daughter, “Rachana, if you only call Auntie, your mom might get a bit jealous, you know?”
Sarah instinctively glanced at Isabella, giving Whitney a playful look, and whispered with a smile, “What you said is not true.” She didn’t want Isabella to misunderstand and think she was that petty.
Isabella just smiled softly, her gaze calm and indifferent, clearly not bothered by it at all. At that moment, Rachana ran up to Sarah and tugged at her hand. “Mommy, can we eat now?” Her sweet little voice tugged at everyone’s heartstrings.
Whitney watched the mother and daughter with a warm smile. After washing their hands, everyone took their seats one by one. Once she was at the table, Rachana started eating seriously, her appetite looking quite healthy.
Whitney shifted his gaze away from Rachana to look seriously at Isabella and said, “Ms. Stout, thank you for saving Sarah. If you ever need my help with anything, just let me know.”
Whitney was a man who always kept his promises, and few people received such a commitment from him. Under the table, Sarah’s hand clenched reflexively, recalling their earlier conversation, and her expression became more uneasy.
Isabella chuckled softly and shook her head. “Just doing my job, Mr. Ximenes. You’re too kind.”
