Chapter 183

A single move incapacitated Jack. Cameron, too, was struggling. He braced himself with one hand on the table, refusing to collapse. The earlier burst of energy had accelerated the blood loss from his wound, and his vision was already blurring.

He quickly untied Laura.

"Cameron!"

Laura sprang up and threw herself into his arms. Cameron gasped in pain as his wound was agitated. Laura then realized the extent of his injuries. She quickly pulled away, apologizing, "I'm sorry."

"You foolish woman," Cameron chuckled hoarsely. His gaze turned cold as he looked at Jack. "Step aside—that guy isn't dead yet."

Laura's heart trembled. The phrase "foolish woman" echoed seven years past. She wondered if Cameron knew something.

Before she could react, Cameron limped toward Jack. Jack's pupils were dilating, a sign of approaching death. However, his limp left hand remained tightly clenched, as if gripping something.

Cameron frowned, sensing something unusual. Instantly, he shot a silver needle from his fingertip, piercing Jack's left hand. The needle stimulated the nerves, releasing Jack's grip. In his hand was a miniature red button, flashing incessantly.

"Oh, shit!"

Cameron's pupils constricted. He recognized it as a bomb detonator, already activated. Explosives had been planted in the building.

His face paled. Using his remaining strength, he scooped Laura into his arms before she could react and began to run from the classroom. A deafening boom erupted from beneath the building, causing the entire structure to collapse. Cameron found himself suspended in midair, rapidly falling.

He could have easily escaped such an explosion in his prime. However, his severe injuries prevented any rapid, forceful movements. He plummeted with the collapsing building.

The building seemed swallowed by some unseen force, sinking and raising dust clouds. Dust filled the air, violent shockwaves spreading like an earthquake. Surrounding buildings leaned and twisted. When the shockwaves subsided, the building was a complete ruin.

After an indeterminate time, Laura's weak voice broke the silence under the rubble. "Am I dead?" She felt incredibly light, utterly weak. They were surrounded by pitch-black darkness, unable to see their own hands.

"I almost died, butI didn't" Cameron's hoarse voice came from above.

"Cameron!"

Laura's senses returned. The explosion flooded back into her memory. She couldn't believe they were alive. She realized they were trapped in a confined space, Cameron pressed against her.

"You foolish woman, as long as you're awake" Cameron chuckled, his voice even more strained.

Laura sensed something was wrong; her heart leaped. "Cameron, are you okay?"

"What could possibly happen to me?" Cameron laughed.

Laura breathed a sigh of relief. But before she could relax, her right hand brushed against something sticky. Her heart clenched. She touched it again, carefully feeling the unknown liquid. The longer she felt it, the more she feared it was blood.
