Chapter 19

“By the way, Blackheart, your actions earlier were impressive,” Cameron said, smiling at Blackheart in the VIP lounge. Having not seen Blackheart in a few years, Cameron noted a significant improvement in his skills.

Blackheart bowed. “Sir, please forgive my unauthorized actions.”

Cameron was surprised. “Unauthorized actions? What do you mean?”

“I revealed your identity,” Blackheart said, terrified and panicked. He knew Cameron preferred to remain anonymous and disliked public disclosure; otherwise, he wouldn't have canceled the grand ceremony planned for the cruise ship today. Madison and Archie, however, had openly insulted Cameron. Just because Cameron was magnanimous didn't mean Blackheart would tolerate such disrespect. He felt compelled to defend Cameron.

Cameron chuckled. “Ah, that. You did it for me, I understand.” He knew Blackheart was acting out of loyalty.

“Thank you for forgiving me, sir!”

Cameron chuckled and shook his head. “You’re as serious as ever. By the way, any progress on the matter I asked you to investigate?”

“Sorry, sir. No leads yet,” Blackheart replied, shamefaced. He felt unworthy of Cameron’s trust.

Cameron’s eyes flickered, his fists clenching. “No leads?” He had been secretly investigating for years, to no avail. It only reinforced his suspicion that there were hidden reasons behind his mother’s death when he was twelve. He would never forget her giving him a bracelet, telling him to live a good life, before jumping from the twenty-fourth-floor rooftop. She died instantly. His father arrived later, his indifference seared into Cameron's memory. A week later, his father remarried. Soon after, Cameron fell ill and was expelled from the family—he suspected poisoning, possibly connected to his mother's death.

For years, he had investigated, focusing on his father's new wife, but all signs pointed away from her and the Morgan family. This was the most surprising aspect—the perpetrator was deeply hidden.

Blackheart noticed Cameron’s emotional turmoil. Only this matter could still stir such feelings.

“Sir, I’ll assign more personnel to the investigation,” Blackheart said solemnly.

“Okay,” Cameron nodded.

“Sir, there’s something else…”

Cameron took a deep breath. “What is it?”

“Sir, do you remember Ms. Jones?”

Cameron’s eyes flickered. “Ms. Jones? Laura Jones?”

“Yes, sir. She’s been searching for you.”

A hint of self-deprecation crossed Cameron’s face. “Why? Has she discovered my identity?”

“No, sir,” Blackheart replied.

“Then why?” Cameron smirked coldly.

“Perhaps… she can’t forget you, sir,” Blackheart ventured.

Cameron sneered. “Can’t forget me? Ha! Forget it!”

Blackheart persisted, “Sir, perhaps there’s a misunderstanding? Ms. Jones doesn’t seem heartless.” He reasoned that if she were, she wouldn't have searched for Cameron for so long.

Cameron shook his head, his eyes icy. “Blackheart, you don’t know her. Don’t mention her again.”

“But sir… she seems to know you’re in Yrando. She’ll likely arrive in a few days. Given her status…”

“Let her come,” Cameron said calmly. Since that incident, there was no possibility between him and Laura. What did it matter if they met?

“Sir, your next plan? Stay in Yrando or leave?”

“I’ll stay,” Cameron said. He still had important business to attend to.
