Chapter 208
The waterfront scenery was delightful. Sunlight poured down, lush greenery surrounded the area, and elegant fountains sprayed beautiful streams of water, accompanied by melodious music, along the path to the hotel lobby. Everything, from the sunlight to the air, felt perfect. Cameron strolled along the waterfront, enjoying the pleasant surroundings and feeling relaxed. It was evident Laura had carefully planned the scene.
"Cameron, this place is breathtaking!" Dakota's mood lifted instantly.
"Want me to take a picture of you?" Cameron asked with a smile.
"Sure!" Dakota's face lit up.
After Dakota struck a pose with a peace sign, Cameron captured the moment on his phone.
"Cameron, let me take one of you, too," Dakota said excitedly.
"Oh… I don't think that's necessary," Cameron demurred, waving his hand. He wasn't used to having his picture taken.
"Let's take one since we're here," Dakota insisted, unwilling to miss the opportunity.
"Alright," Cameron agreed.
He struck a slightly awkward pose, and Dakota captured the moment.
"Let's go, Cameron!" Dakota felt satisfied, looking at the newly added photo in her phone album.
"Okay," Cameron grinned.
They headed toward the Holiday Hotel, where the event was being held. Entering the banquet hall, they were greeted by a grand and luxurious atmosphere. A red carpet lay in the center of the hall, surrounded by various high-end buffet stations offering a wide selection of food. The banquet hall was already filled with social elites from across Yrando.
Dakota felt a bit overwhelmed by the grandeur of the occasion. It was her first time experiencing such a large-scale event.
"Don't be nervous, Dakota. I'm here with you," Cameron said, taking her hand.
Feeling reassured, Dakota relaxed slightly. She looked at Cameron and expressed her gratitude. "Thank you, Cameron."
"No need to be so formal," Cameron smiled warmly. He then looked at the food and suggested, "Since the event hasn't started yet, let's grab something to eat."
"Okay," Dakota nodded gently. With Cameron by her side, she felt much more at ease.
They approached the buffet table. Just as Cameron was about to get a drink after picking up a cupcake, they heard a surprised voice from behind.
"Cameron!"
Cameron paused and saw a tall, elegant woman walking toward him. She exuded confidence, wearing a white short-sleeved top, light blue denim shorts, and white sneakers.
"Colonel Bailey?" Cameron was surprised. "What are you doing here?"
"Why, you don't want to see me?" Lena's lips curled slightly, showing a hint of displeasure.
"No, that's not what I meant. I just didn't expect you to be here, since you're usually in the provincial capital…" Cameron explained.
"I happened to have a day off, and I received an invitation from Laura. Besides, I heard Alan is in Yrando. I wonder if he'll attend the event," Lena mused.
"Alan?" Cameron was puzzled. "Who is he?"
"Laura didn't mention him?" Lena looked surprised.
"No," Cameron shook his head.
"Alan is…" Lena began to explain when a sarcastic sneer came from behind them.
"Cameron, no wonder you rushed in so eagerly. Turns out you're here to mooch off the buffet! As expected, a useless person like you is always useless, even when given the opportunity!"
