Chapter 225
"What did you say?" Alan's pupils constricted. A surge of killing intent emanated from him.
Cameron remained silent, staring at Alan with cold indifference. Their conflict would be settled here.
"You're seeking death!" Alan exploded, enraged by Cameron's calm demeanor. Vital energy erupted from him, cracking the ground with each step.
"You punk! I'll show you the difference between us!" Roaring, Alan shattered the earth, poised to attack.
Cameron slowly clenched his fists, his intent to kill clear.
"Alan, stop!" Lena's sharp reprimand cut through the air. She positioned herself between them, halting the fight.
"Colonel Bailey," Alan greeted, his smile strained, his eyebrows twitching.
"Alan, what are you doing?" Lena's sharp gaze held anger. She hadn't expected a sneak attack.
"Nothing. Just testing my skills against Cameron," Alan said smoothly, his energy dissipating.
"Testing? Then why use your full strength and bring so many men?" Lena doubted his excuse, her gaze cold. "Alan, don't forget the military regulations! Soldiers protect people. You're engaging in a private fight! Do you think you're a mobster? Should I report this to your superior?"
Alan's forehead throbbed under her rebuke. After considering the consequences, he swallowed his anger. First, he feared Lena reporting him; even his grandfather couldn't protect him from the combatant commander. Second, his grandfather and Lena's were old friends. Third, Lena's future in the military could surpass his own. Feuding with the Baileys over Cameron would only harm him.
He forced a smile. "Colonel Bailey, calling me a mobster is an exaggeration. I brought my soldiers here because of the space; it was a training exercise. Nothing more."
Lena snorted, unconvinced but refraining from pressing further, considering his rank.
He then turned to Cameron, a flash of jealousy in his eyes. "Honestly, what's so special about you that so many women protect you? You're nothing but a coward who hides behind them."
Cameron met his gaze impassively. "Are you jealous?"
"Jealous? I pity you," Alan sneered, anger bubbling. "You're a moocher, a stepping stone. You can only watch me marry Laura! I know you still can't forget her. But that's fine. I'll give you a chance. Come to the Emperor Hotel in Leving for my wedding in two weeks. I'll show you the difference between us! Men, let's go!"
Alan signaled his soldiers and left. Cameron's cold gaze followed him.
