Chapter 226
"Show me the huge difference between us, huh?" Cameron murmured, a gloom flashing across his eyes.
"That guy is annoying!" Lena commented, watching Alan's departing figure. She couldn't do anything to him, though; he had high status and a prominent background.
"You weren't hurt, were you?"
Lena turned, looking at Cameron with concern.
"No."
The chill in his eyes dissipated. "But Alan is extremely fortunate to escape death."
"You said Alan escaped death?" Lena was stunned, looking at him in surprise. "Colonel Bailey, if you hadn't come, he would be dead."
His tone was calm, matter-of-fact. "You're just bragging! If I hadn't arrived, Alan would have beaten you to death!"
Lena smiled. "Still, you're courageous to confront him head-on." Although Alan was overbearing, she admitted he had reason to be arrogant. He was ranked in the top 50 on the leaderboard; in any country, that was a monstrous level of talent. Although Cameron's strength was almost on par with hers, he wasn't even in the top 100—no match for Alan. She thought he said that because he was unwilling to admit his weakness.
Cameron didn't explain, looking into Lena's disbelieving eyes.
Just then, Dakota, arriving late, ran toward Cameron, panting. "Cameron, are you okay? Where is Alan?" The situation had been urgent; Lena, arriving first, had the advantage of speed. As an ordinary person, Dakota naturally couldn't run as fast.
Cameron smiled lightly. "I'm fine. He's gone."
"Thank goodness!" Dakota breathed a sigh of relief, looking at Lena with gratitude. "Colonel Bailey, thanks for your help!" She knew Lena must have intervened.
"It's not a big deal," Lena waved, her eyes on Cameron. Alan's words still swirled in her mind.
With Dakota present, Lena asked tactfully, "Cameron, will you go there in half a month?" She worried he would act impulsively; if so, the entire Xander family would deal with him. At Leving, no one dared challenge the Xander family's power.
"I won't go," Cameron replied without hesitation.
Lena was relieved. "I'm relieved. It seems you're still rational."
He smiled gently. "Colonel Bailey, thank you for your concern." He refused to attend Alan and Laura's wedding not because he feared the Xander family, but because he had moved on from Laura.
"By the way, do you need me to send you home?" Lena asked, concerned for their safety.
Cameron smiled. "No need. You've warned Alan twice. He won't cause more trouble."
She nodded. "That's right. I'll return first. If anything happens, call me."
"Okay," he smiled.
After Lena left, Dakota looked worried. Cameron noticed. "What's wrong, Dakota?" he asked concernedly.
She hesitated, then asked, "Cameron, about what Colonel Bailey mentioned It was the wedding of Alan Xander and Ms. Jones, right?"
He was startled, clearly not expecting her to guess. "That's right." He didn't need to hide it any longer.
She bit her lip. "Are you really not going to attend?"
His answer remained the same. "I won't go."
"Won't you regret it?" Dakota persisted, not wanting him to have regrets.
"Regret? How could I?" He chuckled, shaking his head as he looked into her eyes. "My only regret is that I failed to deal with Alan today." But sooner or later, he would go to Leving for himself and his deceased mother. There were unresolved matters between him and the Morgan family. As for Alan, Cameron would go to the Xander family to seek him out when the time was right. "It's just that the Xander family might not be able to afford the price," he murmured, a chill in his voice.
