Chapter 227

Laura returned to the hotel, preparing to leave Yrando. She looked pale. Having severed ties with the only person she considered worth remembering, nothing held her back.

"Ms. Jones, will you hide the truth from him?" Peggy asked anxiously, watching Laura's haggard face. Having witnessed everything backstage, Peggy knew Laura had spoken those words against her will to protect Cameron. She hadn't expected Alan to arrive at the banquet hall so quickly, already knowing everything.

"No need. It's better for Cameron to remain unaware," Laura said, shaking her head wearily. She glanced at the clear sky, yet felt a profound sense of gloom, as if a cloud shrouded both the sky and her heart.

"But—" Peggy began.

"Enough, Peggy. Let's return to Leving," Laura interrupted, taking a breath.

"Yes, Ms. Jones." Peggy, unable to dissuade Laura and unwilling to see her so despondent, conceded. She felt it was a pity; today should have been the perfect opportunity for Laura and Cameron to reconcile.

"By the way, where's Alan?" Laura asked, noticing his absence even though the convoy was ready.

"I don't know. I only saw Mr. Xander leaving hurriedly. He seemed to have an urgent matter after you returned to the hotel. I thought he'd gone to the restroom at first…" Peggy admitted her ignorance.

"He left for something urgent?" Laura's heart shuddered with anxiety. "Peggy, let's go! We have to go to the banquet hall now!" She realized Alan might be confronting Cameron and blamed herself for her distraction.

Chapter 287

"Laura, are you ready to go?"

Alan's voice startled her. He approached, smiling, with his soldiers in tow.

"Alan, did you go to find Cameron?" Laura asked directly. Alan, taken aback by her perceptiveness, replied, "Yes, I did." He didn't hide it, even grinning. He believed his actions were justified as her fiancé.

Laura felt a mixture of anger and anxiety. Suppressing her anger, she asked, "Alan, you didn't embarrass him, did you? You know he saved my life seven years ago. I don't want things to end badly."

Sensing her restrained anger, Alan replied with a smile, "Don't worry. I simply warned him against approaching you again. You're mine. And also…"

"What else?" Laura's heart tightened.

Alan, noticing her anxiety and fueled by jealousy, wondered what Cameron possessed that made her care so deeply. He took a breath and said, "I told him that if he can't forget you and wants to see you one last time, he can attend our wedding in half a month."

"You—" Laura was furious.

"Rest assured, he won't come. He dares not show his face," Alan sneered, though secretly hoping Cameron would attend so he could humiliate him, showcasing his perceived inadequacy to Laura.
