Chapter 88
Captain Louis stared at Cameron, fear etched in his eyes. Their small police station was no match for such a powerful figure.
“Get Sergeant Tommy out of here and take his badge!” Captain Louis bellowed toward the door, wasting no time.
Two officers immediately entered. Sergeant Tommy, legs trembling, could barely stand. His colleagues swiftly escorted him away. He deeply regretted his actions. If he'd known the consequences, he wouldn't have taken the job. He'd hoped to impress Sergeant David, but instead ruined his career.
After Sergeant Tommy's removal, Captain Louis smoothly approached Cameron, unlocking his handcuffs.
"Mr. Morgan, feeling better now?" he asked, adopting a fawning tone.
Cameron remained silent, twisting his wrist and giving Captain Louis a cold stare. Terrified, Captain Louis paled. "Mr. Morgan, this has nothing to do with me! As you heard, it was Sergeant David's orders. I knew nothing of any scheme!"
Cameron said calmly, "Captain Louis, have you heard the saying? 'When you find one cockroach, thousands are already in the sewers.' Without higher-ups' approval, would subordinates act so recklessly? Today, I hold the power. But what if I didn't? Would I deserve this beating? And before me, how many innocents suffered the same?"
Anger flared in Cameron. "Is this how uniformed officials behave?"
Captain Louis's heart pounded. Wiping sweat, he stammered, "Mr. Morgan, I'm aware of the issues. I transferred here a month ago, and reforming this department takes time. But rest assured, I'll improve team morale to prevent such incidents."
"I'll give you two weeks. Then I'll see results."
"Yes, Mr. Morgan! Let me escort you!" Captain Louis was visibly anxious.
"No need. Return my phone," Cameron said calmly.
"Yes, Mr. Morgan!" Captain Louis quickly complied.
After receiving his phone, Cameron left. Captain Louis sighed in relief, feeling utterly drained. He had to eradicate corruption—for the people, and because Cameron would inspect again in two weeks!
Outside, Cameron checked his phone: dozens of missed calls. Bobby and Lord Blackheart had called, but Dakota's calls were the most numerous. He texted Bobby and Lord Blackheart, assuring them of his safety, then called Dakota.
Dakota answered instantly, his voice anxious. "Cameron, are you okay?"
"Fine, heading home now," Cameron replied, smiling.
"Thank goodness," Dakota breathed. "I was frantic. I wanted to find you, but by the time I got my car, the police car was gone. I didn't know which station they took you to, so I asked Mr. Kane for help."
"Thank you, Dakota," Cameron said warmly. (Dakota had likely told Bobby, who informed Lord Blackheart, who then intervened.)
"I'm glad you're okay. Where are you? I'll pick you up."
"No need, I can manage," Cameron replied, unwilling to trouble Dakota.
"Alright, let me know when you get home."
"Okay."
As Cameron hailed a taxi, he noticed a black Lincoln limousine with the license plate "VA88888." He knew who owned it. His gaze turned cold.
The limousine honked, pulling in front of him. The rear window lowered, revealing Laura's beautiful face. Cameron's expression remained indifferent.
