Chapter 90

"Ms. Jones, can't we discuss this here?" Cameron asked, feeling a headache coming on.

"It's not convenient," Laura replied softly. "Come with me to the car. It's been seven years. You've changed a lot."

Cameron remained silent, and they stared at each other for a long moment. Laura bit her lip, her eyes filled with grievance. Finally, she said, "Hmmm."

Cameron sighed. "Fine, I'll go." He wanted to clarify things with Laura once and for all; he was finished with her.

"Okay!" A flash of joy crossed Laura's face.

They got into the car. "Perez, drive to Azure Residence," Laura instructed the driver, regaining her composure.

"Yes, Ms. Jones," Perez replied, accelerating toward Azure Residence.

"Why are we going to Azure Residence?" Cameron asked, stunned. Did Laura know where he lived?

"I bought you a villa there. You can live there," Laura said softly.

Cameron raised an eyebrow. "You bought me a villa?"

"Yes."

"Ms. Jones, thank you for your kindness," Cameron said, "but I don't need your compensation or help. I won't accept the villa."

Laura pleaded, "Cameron, please. Give me a chance to make it up to you."

"I don't need it," Cameron said coldly. "You don't owe me anything. The best way to help me is to stay away from me." He didn't want to see her again; her presence irritated him.

"Cameron, don't say that. I know what happened seven years ago caused you pain, but—"

"Stop it!" Cameron's voice rose, then he took a deep breath and softened his tone. "I'm sorry. I don't want to talk about it."

"Okay, then we won't," Laura said, her eyes betraying her inner turmoil.

Peggy, observing from the backseat, was furious. A privileged woman like Laura was humbling herself before this man, who didn't appreciate her efforts. Countless wealthy men in Leving would pay fortunes for Laura's smile, yet this man treated her poorly and refused a villa! His cheap clothes marked him as working-class; Peggy couldn't understand his refusal. It was more annoying than encountering Archie at the airport earlier. She mentally cursed him: "I hope you fall into a manhole! May your food always be cold!"

While Peggy fumed, Laura's mood lightened. Remembering her encounter with Madison at the airport, she decided to tell Cameron. "I saw her at the airport."

"Who?" Cameron asked, startled.

"Madison," Laura said, a hint of coldness in her beautiful eyes.
