Chapter 249
As soon as she said it, she regretted it. Who the hell keeps that kind of medicine in a first-aid kit? And they werenโt even at home; they were in Mount Spring.
Macro wasnโt buying it. โThe first-aid kit had something like that?โ
โYeah! It was in there.โ She forced herself to sound convincing, almost believing her own lie.
Macro sighed. โFine. Open the door. I need to check on him. And donโt do anything stupid.โ
Stephanie wondered. Too late. They had done the stupid thing.
โGive me a sec!โ Hanging up, she stared at herself in the mirror, panic swirling in her chest. She slapped her face lightly. โOh my god, oh my god, what do I do?โ
How did this even happen? No! Did this count as taking advantage of him? After all, he hadnโt been in a clear state of mindโฆ Her brain completely shut down.
Stephanie cracked open the bathroom door and peeked toward the bed. Sebastian was still in the same posture; he was clearly exhausted. Well, no wonder. At leastโฆ two hours, right? Her legs still felt weak. They ached. They burned. She was the one who needed a doctor more now!
Even though she knew Sebastian wouldnโt wake up easily, she still moved carefully, dressing herself as quietly as possible. She even tidied Sebastian up a little. At the last moment, she grabbed the gray scarf tangled in the sheets and hurried to stash it in the bathroom. Then, she tidied up the room as much as she could.
She just found Macro standing outside, rubbing his hands together to fight off the cold. Clearly, heโd been waiting for a while. His gaze immediately landed on Stephanie, who was now bundled up in a thick robe, with a fluffy scarf wrapped tightly around her neck.
The corner of Macroโs mouth twitched. โWhatโฆ what kind ofโฆ?โ
Who the hell sleeps wrapped up like that?
โIโm cold. Got a problem with that?โ Stephanie snapped back.
Of course, thereโs a problem. That excuse could make senseโฆ if it werenโt for the fact that she hadnโt even gotten out of bed yet.
Although skeptical, Macro didnโt dwell on it. He got straight to the point. โWhereโs your brother?โ
โIn my room,โ Stephanie answered.
His gaze immediately sharpened, a strange look flickering in his eyes. Okay, this was getting dangerous. Stephanie felt her heart skip a beat.
โHe just walked in and passed out,โ she blurted out. โHe was dead drunk, and I couldnโt move him. What was I supposed to do?โ
Even to her own ears, the explanation sounded flimsy. But she had no choice but to make him believe it.
Macro didnโt say anything. He just stared at her, unblinking. His silence made Stephanie even more nervous. Then, out of nowhere, he took a step forward and reached for her scarf.
Stephanie sucked in a sharp breath. She immediately grabbed the scarf, holding it in place. โWhat are you doing?โ
Oh no! Was he seriously suspecting something? If Macro was already this suspicious, what would happen when Sebastian woke up? The thought made Stephanieโs breathing hitch. She was terrified.
Macroโs voice was low. โYou know what kind of drug your brother was given, donโt you?โ
Did she really think she could play him for a fool?
Stephanie forced a nod. โYeah. Like I told you, I found some medicine and gave it to him.โ She did her best to sound confident, but inside, she was panicking.
Macro didnโt buy it. โTake it off.โ
โYou-โ
โLet me see!โ
Stephanie didnโt say anything; she just clutched her scarf tightly.
Was this what a heart attack felt like? Because hers was definitely about to give out!
