Chapter 107

The man’s aura commanded the room. A loud bang made everyone’s hearts jump. All eyes turned to the door as Director Keith entered, accompanied by a man of refined bearing.

Seeing Keith, the two interrogators exchanged glances and rose respectfully. "Director Keith," one began.

Keith glared at them. "Did you bring back the evidence?"

The interrogators were stunned. Keith’s sharp question hung in the air.

"No," they replied.

"Then why did you arrest this lady without evidence?" Keith demanded.

The interrogators stiffened. "But, Director Keith, we…"

"Shut up! Is this how I taught you to do things?" Keith's voice was sharp, his anger evident.

Three minutes later, Keith turned to Sebastian respectfully. "Mr. Giovanni, I…"

Sebastian coldly surveyed the room before approaching Stephanie.

Stephanie stood, whispering, "Hi, Sebastian."

Sebastian looked her over. "Did they make things difficult for you?"

Several interrogators, fresh from Keith’s reprimand, felt the weight of Sebastian’s presence. They looked curiously at him, wondering if this was the formidable brother Stephanie had been waiting for.

Stephanie said, "If you hadn’t come, they probably would have hit me."

Keith and the interrogators were taken aback. The interrogators’ earlier actions were suddenly under intense scrutiny. One protested, "Miss Giovanni, we never intended to hit you."

Stephanie replied, "You threw a pen at me."

The interrogators were speechless. Their attempted denial crumbled. There was no escaping the truth.

Keith, already furious, saw their hesitation and slapped his forehead in frustration. One interrogator stammered, "I really didn’t mean to hit her, I swear."

Sebastian’s eyes were icy. "Can we leave now?"

Keith nodded. "Of course."

An interrogator started to object, but Keith cut him off. "Shut up."

Sebastian stated, "I want the truth about this. An investigation will be conducted."

Keith assured him, "Yes, sir. We will get to the bottom of this." No one knew exactly who this man was, but his authority was undeniable.

Finally, amidst the strained silence of the others, Sebastian and Stephanie left the hospital. As soon as they were in the car, Sebastian lifted Stephanie onto his lap.

Startled, she instinctively clung to his neck. "Why did you pick me up?" she asked, concern coloring her voice. Internally, she added, You can’t just do this all the time. Is this really okay?

Sebastian’s tone was cold and distant. "Didn't you say you wanted to have fun? Is this how you have fun?" He didn't object to fun, but this felt confining to her.

Stephanie replied, "It was an accident." She’d initially suspected Olivia’s involvement, but Olivia was now in the emergency room, vomiting blood, possibly facing a life-threatening situation.

Sebastian’s grip tightened on her waist. "How many of these 'accidents' have there been over the years?"

Stephanie fell silent, knowing there had been too many. Whenever something happened to Olivia, Stephanie was always the scapegoat.
