Chapter 359: Shock and Bewildered

Part 1

Carlos was still bewildered. Seeing them berate Nina, he exclaimed, "What are you all blabbering about? Nina is so young; how could she possibly mean that? Just because you coveted the inheritance before your son's death, do you think everyone else is the same?"

The two elders’ faces turned ghastly pale. However, their son's near-death experience evoked deep sadness and urgency. They released their pent-up anger, fueled by fear of losing him and the potential vulnerability it created. In desperation, they cried to Sarah, "What are you waiting for? Do you really want my son to die discontented?"

The elders genuinely broke down. Their only son was dying, making it difficult for those unaware of the situation to respond.

Nina, still a child, was utterly bewildered. Lost and confused, she wondered, "Why is this happening? Why did my father, grandfather, and grandmother treat my mother and me this way? Is it because we're not good enough?"

Sarah closed her eyes, wiping away tears. She called her lawyer, urging him to come immediately.

Carlos wanted to speak but chose not to interfere, as Sarah had made her decision.

The elderly parents rushed to their son's bedside, grasping his hand and weeping; Benett sighed in relief. He grappled with his impending death, overwhelmed by grief. Isabella was about to speak, but Alexander stopped her. "Audrey, Adam, and Caitlin will be here soon. Can you please step outside for a moment?"

Carlos considered offering to pick them up but hesitated under Alexander's gaze.

Sarah, feeling drained, didn't dwell on it. Seeing her daughter still dazed, she decided to inform her parents about the unusual divorce arrangement later and explain everything to Nina to prevent psychological trauma.

The Quirk family members left the ward. Outside, however, no one was there.

Puzzled, Sarah looked at Alexander. He ignored her confusion, opened the door to the adjacent, empty ward, and gestured for her to enter.

Carlos and his siblings tried to follow, but Alexander stopped them.

Sarah and Nina entered the empty room, both confused.

Without speaking, Alexander handed Sarah his phone, indicating she should look at it.

"Although it wasn't fully edited, I believe you'll understand what happened," Alexander said nonchalantly.

Sarah played the video. The people were strangers, but as the dialogue progressed, her face drained of color. The sorrow in her eyes intensified into fiery anger.

She trembled as she listened. Hearing the claim of Nina being their half-sister, she collapsed. Isabella quickly caught her.

"Mom, Mom!" Nina, having regained composure, saw her mother's distress and wept even harder.

"This can't be true, can it?" Even the strongest woman would find this difficult to accept.

But Alexander and Isabella didn't respond. Nina sobbed, "Mom, it's true. I saw it—they are Dad's… He's not my dad; he's their dad. He only loves them, not me! Mom, I wanted to stop you, I didn't want to give them anything. Why? Why should we? You worked so hard for this. Why should we give it to them?"

The inheritance was mainly due to Sarah's management and the Quirk family's influence. Benett was, at most, a high-ranking employee. What he provided his parents was more than enough. His greed was appalling—he wanted to swindle Sarah's empire to benefit his mistress and illegitimate children, leaving nothing for his daughter. He was utterly shameless.
