Chapter 365: The Money He Spent on Others
Sloane's brother, shockingly, snatched the urn. His audacious move stunned everyone. Terry and Vera, instead of intervening, watched Sarah warily, fearing she might steal it.
The lawyer, lips twitching, observed the absurd scene. "Everyone," he said, "there's no need for this. Ashes can't be identified. Without Mr. Bennett's body for testing, nothing will hold up in court."
Sloane's eyes widened. "So it was intentional," she said, her voice laced with fury. "You knew, didn't you? You cremated Bennett to seize the inheritance!"
Terry and Vera's distress was immediate and dramatic—wailing, shouting, and cursing Sarah. "How could you be so ruthless?" Terry cried. "My poor son, burned by your venomous actions! He's dead, and you're still trying to wipe out the Eaton family's legacy!"
Sarah sneered. "You schemed my divorce, tricked me, and used my hard-earned money to support your illegitimate children. But I'm not allowed to fight back?"
The other guests were astonished. They'd assumed Sarah cremated the body out of hatred after discovering her husband's infidelity, not as part of a larger plan. They had to admit Sarah's tactics were ruthless, exceeding anything Bennett would have attempted. Since he'd used her money to support his illegitimate children, she would strip them of any inheritance.
"Sir, we can provide evidence!" Terry and Vera exclaimed. "Bennett is our only child. If we can prove these are our grandchildren…"
Sarah laughed coldly.
"That won't suffice," the lawyer stated.
"Then let Nina take a DNA test with them," Sloane suggested. "If they're siblings…"
Terry and Vera's excited gaze fixed on Nina.
"Am I obligated to cooperate?" Nina asked, turning to the lawyer. "They can't force me, right?"
The lawyer, wiping sweat, replied, "You have the right to refuse a DNA test." He then added, noticing the hostile stares from the crowd, "Even a secret test would be invalid. Consent is required."
This effectively thwarted their plans. The young, surprisingly shrewd illegitimate children glared at Nina, but she remained unfazed, rolling her eyes. Their curses and pleas were ineffective. The mother-daughter duo's resolve left Terry, Vera, and Sloane glaring helplessly.
Just as the lawyer was about to announce the inheritance division, Sarah shouted, "Wait! Bennett's inheritance isn't complete. The money he spent on others behind my back hasn't been recovered!"
The lawyer paused, realizing the implication.
Sarah smirked at Sloane. "I intend to reclaim the marital assets my late husband spent on his mistress." She instructed her secretary to give the lawyer a prepared list.
Sloane erupted. "By what right? He was raising his children! You can't take that back!"
The loss of her children's inheritance had enraged her, but the prospect of losing everything—including what her husband spent on her family—threatened total ruin.
