Chapter 203: Surveillance Footage

“You’re a resident. Get the property management to delete the footage.” As Victoria spoke, she scanned her surroundings and quickly realized that it wasn’t just the complex’s security cameras that had captured her hitting Ellis. The complex was right by the road, and there were plenty of street cameras as well. Deleting all the footage would be a challenge. Jess went to negotiate with the property management first, but to her surprise, they refused.

Their reasoning was simple—the surveillance system was installed for the safety of all residents, not to serve the interests of any one individual. Footage could not be deleted without cause, not even at the strong insistence of a resident.

Victoria was more straightforward than Jess; she tried to bribe the management. However, they still refused. The reason was that Ellis had called, clearly explaining her request and reasons. The management now saw Jess and Victoria differently.

Not getting the footage deleted meant that Ellis had something on her. After leaving the management office, Victoria was so furious that she kicked a vase at the side. It fell and broke into many pieces.

Jess looked at it, then at the angry Victoria. Recalling Ellis’s words, Jess asked weakly, “When will I get to attend your and Easton’s wedding dinner?”

The more lies Victoria told, the more convincing they seemed. But in the end, a lie was still a lie. And deep down, she was starting to lose confidence. Easton’s recent actions and words showed no sign of wanting to rekindle things with her. Instead, he kept pushing her further away, so much so that she ended up being mocked by Ellis today.

Jess’s question angered her even more. “Stop thinking about that and start focusing on how to delete the footage.”

Jess wanted to say that she had no idea…

“Give me some time.”

There were three things that could not be hidden in this world—love, a cough, and poverty. Ellis did not expect Victoria to find out about her feelings for Easton long ago. And she only said it out today, in a humiliating tone. Ellis couldn’t help but recall the time when she started falling in love.

From her point of view, she thought she had concealed it well. If Victoria could notice, what about Easton? Did he know since long ago, and what did he think about it? Did the two of them talk about it in secret and laugh at her?

She touched the back of her head, which was still painful. After entering her house, she angrily tossed her bag on the sofa and lay there.

Maya, who got off work earlier, asked, “What’s wrong with you?”

“I bumped into Victoria at the residential area entrance.”

“Who?”

“Victoria, that jerk’s first love,” Ellis said.

“She stays here too?” Maya was surprised.

“I don’t think so.” After Ellis analyzed, she confirmed that Victoria didn’t stay here.

“Did she…” Maya was speaking halfway when she noticed the marks on her face. “She hit you?”

She remembered that Ellis and Victoria did not get along.

“Hm,” Ellis responded.

“What the fuck!” Maya quickly sat beside Ellis and held her face, watching closely. “Your face was almost ruined by Bree back then; thank god your face is fine now. Your pretty face is so lucky!”

Chapter 203: Surveillance Footage

“Getting physical like this… Do it too many times, and you won’t always come out unscathed. You should rein in your temper.” Maya disapproved of Ellis letting her negative emotions take over and acting on impulse. If she ever ran into someone who wouldn’t back down, things could get messy, and she might end up paying a heavy price.

“I didn’t want to hit her, but I already did,” Ellis flipped over and sat up. “I’ll tell you more later. I need to go request the footage of Victoria hitting me from the property management first.”

“You planning to report her? Need a lawyer to step in?” Maya figured she was about to have another task on her hands.

“I’m not reporting her. Just want to send the video to Easton.” Ellis’s initial amusement faded quite a bit after saying that.

Sending the video to Easton… didn’t seem like it would have much of an impact. Easton saw a completely different side of Victoria, but at the same time, he also saw Ellis looking utterly pathetic; her pride would be gone. Of course, compared to exposing Victoria’s true colors, she didn’t care about her own pride.

The real question was, would Easton actually believe that was the real Victoria? Would he make excuses for her, seeing her through biases and brushing this off like it was nothing, continuing to play happy couple with her?

Maya was puzzled. “Why him? You’re hoping he could bring you justice?”

“That’s crazy,” Ellis massaged her temples. “But, it seems to be useless even if I send him.”

“Whether it’s useful or not, let me see it first. Maybe we can keep the video as evidence. If Victoria dares to hit you again, you can use it to report her and have her arrested.”
