Chapter 205: Easton Found Out
A rustling noise filled the air, clearly the sound of multiple vehicles passing by, carried on the wind. But more striking than the noise was the scene unfolding on the screen: a girl yanking another girl's hair from behind, completely overpowering her. She kept slapping her face and head with brutal force, again and again.
The girl throwing the punches had a ferocious expression. He recognized herโit was Victoria. As for the one being beaten, though her face wasn't visible, her figure alone was enough for him to know it was Ellis.
Ian Victoria hitting Ellis? And not just hitting. There was none of Victoria's usual fragility. Instead, her face was filled with sheer malice, as if she wanted Ellis dead.
His brows furrowed instantly, and he was displeased. Exiting WhatsApp, Easton opened his contacts and went straight to the blocked numbers, finding Victoria's.
Meanwhile, Victoria and Jess were still trying to delete the surveillance footage and hadn't left yet.
Getting a call from Easton at a time like this sent a wave of unease through Victoria. Jess caught a glimpse of the caller ID on Victoria's phone and had a bad feeling too.
โEastonโs calling you? Could Ellis have already sent him the video?โ The more Jess spoke, the wider her eyes grew. โWhat about your image?โ
โDonโt talk about it,โ Victoria snapped irritably. She was furious at Ellis. The image she had worked so hard to maintain in front of Easton was ruined by Ellis!
โAre you gonna answer?โ Jess asked, equal parts curious and worried.
Right now, saving her reputation was the priority. Victoria took a deep breath, forced a smile, and swiped to answer. Softening her voice deliberately, she spoke, โEaston,โ
โVictoria Brooks!โ Eastonโs angry voice came from the phone. He had never addressed her so angrily before, which deepened her resentment toward Ellis.
โAre you asking for death?โ Although he had stopped looking at the video, he still couldn't help but think about the scene where Victoria was slapping Ellis.
He couldnโt quite put his finger on what exactly was making him so angry. Maybe it was the big contrast between Victoriaโs usual demeanor and the way she looked in the video. Or maybe it was the fact that she had attacked someone out of nowhere, gotten caught on camera, and had the footage sent to him by Maya. This was a direct slap to his face.
โEastonโฆ what are you talking about? I donโt understand,โ Victoriaโs lips quivered as she spoke, her voice trembling. โDid you misunderstand me? Iโฆโ
His tone was cold and sharp as he said, โDrop the innocent act. If youโre trying to deny it, donโt bother. I have the video of you hitting Ellis!โ
โIโฆ I did hit Ellis, Eastonโฆโ Victoria stammered on purpose, sniffing a few times as if she were crying, trying to paint herself as the victim. โBut donโt you remember? Ellis slapped me in your office last time.โ
โShe slapped you once, and you just have to beat her to near death?โ
โI did not! I was just so angry that when I saw her and recalled the slap, I couldnโt stop myself. Iโฆโ
โYouโre telling me you were too angry? Victoria, what did you say that day?โ Eastonโs eyes turned cold. โDo you need my helpโฆ for a memory refresh? You said that even if she hit you, so be it.โ
โDonโt give me your bullshit. Trying to be double-faced, huh?โ
Easton was clearly ready to hold her accountable for hitting Ellis. But no matter how furious she was, she had to keep up appearances.
โI let it go that day because she was your wife,โ she said with a sad tone. โBut sheโs not your wife anymore.โ
โI already told you that she has a bad temper!โ Eastonโs voice was filled with impatience. โShe even hit me before, but I never held it against her. So why are you making a fuss? What right do you have to hold it against her?โ
He had never once laid a hand on Ellis. He knew that no matter how much time passed, her nature wouldnโt change. That was just the way she was. If things didnโt go her way, sheโd throw a tantrum, and sometimes, she had a habit of getting physical. But even when she did, she always had control and she never aimed to cause real harm. Once her anger subsided, it was over.
โYou donโt hold it against her when she hits you, but I canโt hold it against her too!โ Victoria was stunned by what Easton had just said. What was this logic!
โVictoria, whatever we had between us ends here,โ Eastonโs voice was cold. As soon as he finished speaking, he hung up without hesitation.
At this moment, there wasnโt a shred of childhood emotions left in him for Victoria. But it wasnโt because he had just realized how different she truly was. No. His mind was filled with one thoughtโEllis had hit him before, and he had never once retaliated. Yet Victoria, over a single slap from Ellis, dared to beat her like she wanted her dead. She must have a death wish.
The intercom rang in the office. Easton didnโt say a word, but Taylor immediately understood what he meant. Without delay, she stepped inside and said respectfully, โMr. Hudson.โ
