Chapter 206: Secrets, Schemes, and Silent Battles
โGet back the money we gave to Victoriaโs company, and keep pressuring them until they go bankrupt,โ Easton ordered.
โYes, Iโll get on it right away,โ Taylor replied. Victoriaโs company had already been cut off, and with the bossโs new orders, Taylor figured there was a better than 90% chance that Victoria wouldnโt end up as the lady boss.
Ever since she started working as Eastonโs assistant, Taylor had noticed Easton growing increasingly frustrated with Victoria. Any hint of affection? Not a chance; the so-called โfirst loveโ had clearly lost her charm.
The call ended abruptly, leaving Victoria fuming with nowhere to vent her anger. Her face went from pale to flushed as she glanced around. โGo ask management where Ellis lives,โ she demanded.
Since Victoria didnโt have her phone on speaker, Jess couldnโt hear what Easton had said. But judging by the look on Victoriaโs face, it was obvious that it wasnโt anything good.
When Jess heard Victoria ask her to find out exactly where Ellis lived, she quickly warned, โMs. Victoria, there is surveillance everywhere around here!โ
โDo you know what Easton just said to me?โ Victoria spat bitterly, swallowing hard. โHe said Iโm two-faced, and whatever we had is over!โ
โWellโฆโ Jess faltered, unsure of what to say.
โThis is all Ellisโs fault! Iโm going to find her and teach her a lesson!โ Victoriaโs eyes burned with hatred for Ellis. Ellis was the reason she hadnโt become Mrs. Hudson the moment she got back. Instead, she ended up with what felt like some nobodyโs unwanted leftovers. Worse yet, Ellis had wrecked her image in front of Easton, and now he had completely cut her off.
If Victoria tried to go after Ellis again tonight, chances were Ellis would call the cops without a second thought. They would both end up at the station, and once the police called her parents, sheโd be in for a serious scolding, or worse. Just the thought of it made Jess grab Victoria and pull her out of the neighborhood.
Jess suddenly grabbed her arm, leaving Victoria confused. โWhere are you dragging me?โ she asked.
โMs. Victoria, please just let me be. If you want to stir up trouble, fine, but not in my apartment complex. If my parents find out, theyโll kill me!โ Jess had made up her mind to stay out of Victoriaโs mess. After all, Victoria didnโt mind embarrassing herself, but Jess sure did.
โPathetic!โ Victoria snapped, yanking her arm out of Jessโs grasp. โEaston and Ellis are divorcedโsheโs nothing now!โ
She huffed and added, โI wonโt go after her today, but Iโll find the right time and a spot without any surveillance to teach her a lesson. Iโll make sure she pays for this.โ
She had made up her mind; instead of confronting Ellis herself, she would pay someone else to do it and make sure it happened away from any surveillance. That way, even if Ellis reported it to the police, they wouldnโt be able to track down the person responsible, and if they did, she could just pay someone to take the fall.
Jess ignored Victoriaโs words, staying right where she was. She gave a small wave, almost like a farewell, and said pleadingly, โMs. Victoria, thanks for coming to get me, but Iโm not going out tonight. Have fun without me.โ
Victoria realized that Jess was not only useless but also a burden. Knowing she couldnโt count on her, Victoria had no choice but to leave.
On her way to her next stop, Victoria put her money to work, starting to arrange for someone to get back at Ellis.
What Victoria did not know was that Taylor was working overtime, reviewing the financial records of Eastonโs transactions with Victoriaโs company. She was also coordinating with the legal team of Hudson Group to figure out how to drive Victoriaโs company into bankruptcyโquickly and legally.
Chapter 206: Secrets, Schemes, and Silent Battles (Continued)
She tried to wrap things up by sending a bank transferโjust to see if Easton had blocked or deleted her. Otherwise, why else would there be no response?
The moment she tapped to send the transfer, the screen suddenly switched to a voice call. She froze, momentarily stunned. She hadnโt even pressed the voice call button. She looked closer and realized that Easton was the one who had started the voice call.
Eastonโs response caught Maya completely off guard. Answering felt wrong, but ignoring it didnโt seem right either.
She grabbed her phone and walked into Ellisโs room. โEllis,โ she asked, โEastonโs calling. Should I answer it?โ
After finishing her nighttime routine, Ellis sat at her vanity, gently smoothing skincare products over her face. Hearing Mayaโs words, Ellis turned her head in surprise. She glanced at the screen twice, confirming the name before asking, puzzled, โWhy is he calling? What did you say to him before this?โ
โI didnโt say anything. His reply was just a voice call,โ Maya said, equally confused about what Easton wanted to say.
โGo ahead and answer it. Put it on speaker.โ
โAlright.โ
Maya tapped the accept button and sat down at the vanity as well, ready to gauge Ellisโs reaction before deciding how to respond.
โIs Ellis with you?โ Easton opened with that question, his tone cold and distant, with a hint of arrogance. Maya and Ellis exchanged uncertain looks, unsure of what he was getting at.
Seeing Ellis shake her head, Maya quicklyโฆ
