I Am the Real Boss by Jess
Chapter 251: A Hundred Million Dollars
Easton guessed Mayaโs intention, but he was more curious about why Ellis didnโt keep the crown. Isnโt she a shallow woman who loves money?
โI spent almost a hundred million to buy this crown.โ He lowered his face, hiding the complicated look deep within his eyes.
When Maya heard the price, she was thankful that Ellis took the crown back after throwing it. It was a hundred million dollars! What an astronomical amount!
If the crown was gone, even if Ellis sold herself, she wouldnโt be able to repay Easton.
โNo matter how much Mr. Hudson spent on it, Ellis doesnโt want it.โ With that, Maya swiftly turned and left. As soon as she stepped out of Hudson Group, she called Ellis.
The moment Ellis swiped to answer, Mayaโs voice burst through the phone, utterly shocked. โHoly shit!โ
โWhatโs wrong?โ Ellis asked, confused.
โThat crown your ex-husband gave youโฆ He said he bought it for over a hundred million!โ Maya was practically seething with envy. โDo you even realize what that means? Thatโs money you and I could work ourselves to the bone for a lifetime and still never make! And he just casually drops it on a piece of jewelry for you!โ
โWhen you returned it, did he pull some trick to scam you?โ Ellis didnโt see the point in Easton bringing up the price. The moment she heard about it, she instinctively felt something was off.
โNo! Iโm just in shock!โ Maya reined in the sourness in her tone. โAnd you keep saying your ex-husband doesnโt want to get back together with you, but to me, a guy whoโs willing to throw that much money at a woman is basically a peacock showing off his feathers.โ
โQuit telling me horror stories!โ Ellis had no interest in hearing nauseating speculations. โMy colleagues are nagging me to hurry back to the firm. Weโll talk tonight.โ
Maya was speechless.
Maya left, but she didnโt take the crown. She left it somewhere near him. The crown remained, sitting just within Eastonโs reach.
He had bought it in hopes of earning Ellisโs attention, but now that she had refused to accept it, the crown had lost all its meaning. As he stared at it, he found it somewhat of an eyesore.
That unpleasant feeling, mixed with the jealousy he had felt last night, left him with nothing but a sense of emptiness. A hollow disappointment. He wanted to ask Ellis why she wouldnโt accept his gift.
But before that, he glanced through the latest investigative report from his assistant. One detail stood out, raising a question in his mind.
โWhy did Ellis hire two bodyguards?โ
After checking the manโs identity, he thought perhaps Ellis might have encountered some danger for her to hire bodyguards. Actually, Taylor still had one document that she hadnโt passed to her boss.
Ellis and Morty, Eastonโs friend, had been getting close recently; hiring bodyguards seemed to be Mortyโs idea. The two of them always met at Petal Estates. Morty had been by Ellisโs side at the police station and when she went to see Victoria.
After a moment of hesitation, Taylor sent the email to Easton and said, โMs. Victoria hired someone to hit Ms. Harper, and they even went to the police station. Ms. Harper must have hired bodyguards for her own safety.โ
Eastonโs face slowly darkened. โYou may leave now,โ Easton ordered coldly.
Seeing that, Taylor quickly got out.
After skimming through the second report, Easton pressed his thin lips together in extreme displeasure. Victoria didnโt understand a single damn thing!
As if hitting Ellis once wasnโt enough, now she hired two men to attack her? She was outright testing his limits.
His fingers glided over the mouse, stopping at the end of the report. His eyes narrowed as he focused on one name โ Morty. Since when have Morty and Ellis gotten so close!
A surge of anger flared within him. The thought of another man being closer to Ellis than he was left an unbearable sense of irritation bubbling inside him. Driven by frustration, jealousy, and pure instinct, Easton checked the time, then grabbed his keys and drove straight to Tate Group.
He didnโt go in; he just parked by the street and waited for Ellis.
Ellis wasnโt aware of this, and she worked overtime for half an hour.
When she stayed at Serenity Estate, getting to the office was very convenient; only a few minutes of drive or even walking would suffice. However, since she moved in with Maya, her commute increased by an hour. Yet, she was fine with it.
Well, she couldnโt get everything, right?
Her friend was being so nice to her, taking care of her and protecting her. It would be ungrateful of her to complain.
Thankfully, she had bought a car and it was more convenient. The moment she left the office, she looked for her car and bodyguard.
Instead of the bodyguards and her car, she saw a man walking toward her. It was her clingy ex-husband. She felt like she wanted to give him a slap!
Ellis controlled herself from hitting Easton. She ignored him and walked past.
However, Easton blocked right in front of her.
They had a huge height difference. Yet, with his closeness, she did not feel a hint of oppression. Instead, she was frustrated and annoyed. At this moment, she was cursing to herself, praying for Victoria and Easton to vanish.
