Chapter 252: Business Trip
“Victoria hit you? Why didn’t you tell me?” Easton asked the moment he learned of the incident. When Victoria hit her the first time, Maya sent Easton the surveillance footage to expose Victoria’s true colors. What was she longing for, then?
Does he think I’m the old me, looking for his love and pity? He thinks I’m still the same person—Selia doesn’t care about my life, won’t care about me getting beaten.
She didn’t want to say anything to him, turning around and changing direction. Suddenly, Maya’s words came to her mind, which made her stop in her tracks. She eyed Easton up and down and said mockingly, “Why are you pestering me? According to your behavior, I assume that you regret divorcing me and want to get back together?”
The moment she said “get back together,” Easton’s expression tensed, and it was clear. It was as if he was judging her for saying something so foolish, or perhaps judging her for giving him the creeps. Ellis couldn’t help rolling her eyes. What Maya said was really just a horror story in movies; Ellis was right. Easton did not want to get back with her. What she said was just embarrassing herself.
Being humiliated by her ex-husband after showing up in person was anything but pleasant. Annoyed, Ellis averted her gaze and snapped impatiently, “Since you have no intention of remarrying me, then stop clinging to me, you son of a bench! You’re seriously annoying.”
Faston truly hadn’t considered remarriage before. But the moment he heard Ellis accuse him of wanting it, something in his mind shifted. For a fleeting second, the thought “remarrying her wouldn’t be so bad” circled in his head. At the very least, if they were remarried, he could rightfully demand that they share the same bed. She would finally look at him properly—not with the coldness and irritation she had now. And no other man would ever take his place. The spot beside her had always been his.
“I’m annoying—”
Before he could finish speaking, Ellis saw her car and bodyguards in front. She cut him off. “Alright. Stop irritating me.” Then, she walked away quickly toward her car. Faston stood there, watching her leave. The driver was the male bodyguard he saw last night. Ellis didn’t seem to regret divorcing him; he felt regretful now. Morty could get close to her, and the bodyguards she hired could always be by her side. Yet, he couldn’t. All he got was coldness and indifference from her.
The jealousy almost consumed him. Life in Stonebridge was becoming more unbearable by the day. Ellis couldn’t stand staying there a moment longer.
Finally, after much effort, she managed to secure a business trip abroad. Casey, dissatisfied with his current level in the lab, had been considering further studies overseas. Since Lois had assigned Ellis to take care of him, his decision to go abroad meant she could tag along as well. So, she encouraged Casey to pursue his studies—and it worked!
They sat on the flight to Averton, gazing at the vast blue sky and fluffy clouds outside the window. Ella felt an overwhelming sense of relief. Her mood had lifted considerably, and for the first time in a long while, she felt a sense of peace and…

Though they were seated far apart in first class, Casey could still sense her excitement. Watching her act like a country bumpkin, he shot her a look of mild disdain. “Have you never been abroad before? What’s there to be so happy about?”
She wasn’t bothered by it and smiled. “Of course, I’ve been abroad. But you wouldn’t understand my happiness now.” She felt reborn the day she divorced. Today, flying to Averton meant being away for three to five months. She could have her peace and safety. She didn’t need to worry about anyone hitting her.
Back when her life revolved around Easton, Ellis had never really felt what it was like to have peace and quiet. Lately, with all the frustrating events piling up, she had been constantly irritable, which made her realize just how rare and precious a calm and carefree life truly was.
After exchanging a few more words, Casey predicted that Ellis would eventually hit him with a “you’re just a kid, what do you know?” lecture, so he simply chose to ignore her little fidgety movements. With no one to stop her, Ellis continued to relax, even swinging her legs playfully. It felt as if she had returned to a time of pure innocence, where she was just a carefree, happy child. Her good mood didn’t just last until the plane landed—it stayed with her long after.
While Ellis was enjoying herself in Averton, there were two people back home who were anything but happy—Victoria and Easton. For Victoria, it was because her company had been ruthlessly crushed by Hudson Group, collapsing completely in a short period with no hope of recovery. As for Easton, his insomnia had worsened. He hadn’t had a proper night’s sleep in ages and was now in desperate need of treatment just to get some rest.
