Listen to this chapter:

Ged thought Tiffany would definitely like the wristband; it offered another layer of protection. If she encountered danger and deployed the rope correctly, she could quickly subdue an attacker.

Ged chuckled, anticipating Tiffany's reaction. Humming happily, he prepared to drive away. Shortly afterward, he saw two men forcing Zoe Stevens and Melody Princeton into a car. The men looked sinister; clearly, they were dangerous.

Without hesitation, Ged drove toward them, assuming they would flee. However, they showed no fear. They shoved Zoe into the car and sped off, a second car following closely.

Ged reacted instantly. He floored the accelerator and pursued them. His driving skills proved superior; he wouldn't let them escape. At the tunnel entrance, he sideswiped both cars, forcing them to stop. The cars were badly damaged, but he prevented their escape from the city—at considerable cost to himself. Now, he had a chance to save Zoe.

Ged painfully crawled from his wrecked car. Seeing the injured men, he gloated. Helping Zoe out, he tried to justify his actions: "Zoe, don't blame me. I did it to save you."

Zoe was too anxious to listen. Grabbing his arm, she whispered, "Run! Run!" She knew they were no match for the assassins; even Tiffany couldn't defeat them. Though injured, the assassins retained their combat ability. Once they recovered, escape would be impossible.

Ged, though usually goofy, wasn't foolish. He stopped joking, took Zoe's hand, and they ran. His car was totaled; they could only flag down passing cars for help.

Before they'd gone far, they heard a weak voice: "Save me please"

They turned to see a blood-covered Melody Princeton crawling from the wreckage. Both women had been in the same car; neither car had fared well in the collision. Melody was injured and looked pitiful.

Ged frowned. Previously, chivalry might have compelled him to help. Now, he prioritized self-preservation. He pulled Zoe along, ignoring Melody's pleas.

However, he couldn't ignore his conscience. He told Zoe, "You go ahead. I'll catch up." Before Zoe could stop him, he turned back.

Minutes ticked by—an eternity. Zoe grew increasingly worried. Then, she saw five assassins emerge from their cars.

"Watch out, Ged!"

Zoe limped back as a vehicle sped toward them, showing no sign of slowing. It rammed into the accident scene, indiscriminately targeting both assassins and Ged and Melody. What was their motive?

Zoe, being further away, escaped unharmed. A blinding light flashed, followed by a loud bang and a cloud of dust. The modified Hummer, though damaged, sped away.

Panicked, Zoe found Ged lying some distance away, flung by the Hummer. He was motionless.

"Ged!" Zoe sobbed, frantically patting his face. "Wake up wake up"

Ged eventually opened his eyes, dazed. He weakly comforted her: "Don't worry. Tiffany will come to our rescue. She will" His voice trailed off. He closed his eyes; his heart stopped. Zoe wept.

Later, recounting the events, Zoe's story struck Tiffany as illogical. First, if Ged was going home, he shouldn't have encountered the assassins. Second, the Hummer's reckless attack on the assassins suggested they weren't working together; it was more likely revenge.

These points indicated Ged had been deliberately lured into an ambush. Was the metal strip impaling his heart accidental? Tiffany doubted it.

Tiffany looked at the trembling Melody, curled up in Kenneth's arms. "Why are you looking at me like that? Do you think I'm responsible?" Melody cried.

"Hmph!" Tiffany snorted, then turned to Jeremy Cooper. "Where are the assassins? Dead? If not, kill them." June and Jeremy, knowing her anger, simply nodded. The assassins were long gone, however.

An ambulance arrived. After examination, the paramedics shook their heads, covering Ged's face with a blanket.

Seeing this, Tiffany's eyes glinted; she clenched her fists, her heart aching. Just as June expected her to break down, Tiffany icily commanded, "Take me to Royal Bay."
