Chapter 586
Melody and Kenneth, once bitter rivals, now found themselves shaking hands. Tiffany, lowering her paintbrush, watched as Kenneth approached. Young and in his prime, Kenneth was his family's last hope after the Harper family's upheaval and the death of its head. His well-ironed suit emphasized his sharp appearance.
They hadn't seen each other since Ryan's funeral. Kenneth had been consumed by family business, leaving little time for school. His sharp mind, however, allowed him to graduate early.
"How have you been recently?" Kenneth asked, laughing and looking at Tiffany.
Tiffany smiled. "As you can see."
Her appearance spoke volumes. Sitting in the window light, her white uniform highlighted her slender figure and elegant legs. But her face was truly captivating—perfect and mesmerizing. Her clear eyes sparkled with happiness, her usually cold demeanor softened. It was clear Richard had this effect on her.
The thought made Kenneth look away, his heart aching with past mistakes. He feared another look would consume him. He desperately wanted to hold her, but knew he couldn't, secretly swallowing the dangerous thought.
Suddenly, Tiffany asked, "Hey, Kenneth, what's wrong? Why are you suddenly at school? Do you need something from me?"
"Yes," Kenneth replied, recalling his recent discovery in the park. He was about to reveal everything when he froze.
Previously, while driving past Lovell City School, Kenneth had unexpectedly seen Melody skipping class. Since linking her to the Harper family murder, he'd deeply resented her, secretly following her.
He tracked her to the park, where he saw Melody and Lorenzo together. Their familiarity confirmed his suspicions: Melody had leaked information about the Treasure Box, exploiting Kenneth's hesitation to remain in his family's home for ten days while she investigated. She then informed Lorenzo, attracting assassins to attack Kenneth's family while she escaped unharmed. Beneath her innocent façade, a ruthless woman lurked.
Seeing Lorenzo, Kenneth initially wanted to confront him, but overheard Melody's plan against Tiffany, chilling him to the bone. "Possessing Tiffany's body with super-advanced technology?" he thought. "How could she?"
Despite his anger, Kenneth felt a lingering guilt. He had broken off their engagement first; perhaps Tiffany's actions were revenge or coercion by Lorenzo. Regardless, he was willing to forgive her.
But that day, Kenneth witnessed Melody's true terrifying nature, questioning her humanity.
He'd come to Lovell City School to warn Tiffany, hoping to at least give her advance warning. However, he hesitated, falling into a dilemma.
If Melody succeeded, Tiffany's body and mind would be taken over. Kenneth swore he would never abandon Tiffany, regardless of her appearance. A more terrifying thought then occurred: he hoped Melody would succeed. This way, he wouldn't be seen as stealing Tiffany from Richard, avoiding his wrath and allowing him to be with Tiffany openly. "Wouldn't it be the best of both worlds if no one knew?" he considered, before his conscience wrestled with his desires.
Tiffany, puzzled by his distracted behavior, asked, "What's wrong? Are you possessed?"
Kenneth, startled, quickly recovered. "No."
He despised himself for entertaining such thoughts. He had promised to let go, yet here he was, falling back into his selfish desires.
Knowing that supporting Melody would make him no better than she or Lorenzo, he summoned his courage. "I have something to tell you," he sighed.
"Tell me."
"Today, I followed Melody to the park. I saw her meet Lorenzo; they discussed a plan against you."
"What is it?"
"Lorenzo mentioned Felix obtaining an item for a high price. If the experiment is successful, it can swap minds. Melody wants to take over your body."
Tiffany, usually calm, was shocked. "Is she insane? How depraved is she?" she thought, deeming the plan immoral and absurd.
Tiffany sneered. "How long will this experiment take?"
"I heard two days," Kenneth replied. "No matter what, be careful. Should I arrange someone to follow you?"
Tiffany rejected his help, dismissing her bodyguards and even Richard, who was assigned to protect her. Knowing she couldn't stop Melody, she planned to use the situation to her advantage. A faint, cold smile played on her lips as she crossed her legs.
