Chapter 109

Amelia chuckled. She thought, โ€œSo thatโ€™s Elaineโ€™s plan? She wanted my dress. Not a chance!โ€

โ€œWhat are you laughing at? You better compensate me with a new dress, or I wonโ€™t let this go.โ€ Elaine raised her voice, her wide eyes brimming with tears, ready to sob her heart out for everyone to see.

This dramatic routineโ€”crying, whining, and throwing a tantrumโ€”Amelia had seen Henry and his family pull off plenty of times. She knew it like the back of her hand.

Cynthia frowned, thinking, โ€œIs Amelia going to cry first?โ€

However, Amelia snatched the wine glass from Elaineโ€™s hand and splashed it all over her.

The room went silent. Everyone stared in shock, wondering how Amelia dared to do that in front of so many people.

โ€œAmelia, are you out of your mind?โ€ Elaine shrieked, her face drenched, her makeup smudged. She glared at Amelia in disbelief.

โ€œYou keep accusing me of throwing wine at you,โ€ Amelia sneered. โ€œWell, I figured Iโ€™d make it worth your while.โ€

โ€œYouโ€ฆโ€ Elaine trembled with rage, thinking, โ€œHow could Amelia dare do this in front of everyone?โ€

โ€œFine, Iโ€™ll get you a new dress,โ€ Amelia said, setting the wine glass down. Then she turned toward Landon. โ€œDarling, you saw all of that, right?โ€

โ€œBrilliant work.โ€ Landon smirked, clearly amused. He turned to Aaron and instructed, โ€œWhat are you waiting for? Go get her the dress.โ€

โ€œRight away.โ€ Aaron immediately left the room.

Elaine thought, โ€œI finally got the silver mermaid gown Landon bought. Once I slim down and wear it, itโ€™ll feel like being wrapped in his affection. A splash of wine is a small price to pay. Totally worth it. But one day, Iโ€™ll return the favorโ€”tenfold, a hundredfold. Iโ€™ll make Amelia regret it until sheโ€™s crying and begging.โ€

โ€œMs. Atkinson, my apologies. Let me take you to change,โ€ Cynthia said. Only then did Elaine leave with Cynthia.

โ€œCan you get the exact same one? Iโ€™m not giving away my dress,โ€ Amelia whispered.

Amelia hadnโ€™t acted recklessly when she splashed Elaine earlier. Just before doing it, she had caught Landonโ€™s inner thoughts, โ€œDonโ€™t hold back. Give her what she deserves. Iโ€™ll handle the consequences.โ€ That was all the reassurance she needed to boldly promise a replacement.

Landon took Ameliaโ€™s hand and smiled, โ€œYes. But youโ€™ll have to cover the cost yourself.โ€

โ€œOkay,โ€ Amelia agreed. Elaineโ€™s little tricks and schemes were painfully immature. All that fuss was just to get her hands on a dress Landon had bought, but Amelia wouldnโ€™t let Elaine have that satisfaction.

โ€œMs. Atkinson has always been a bit spoiled. Letโ€™s not hold it against her. Carry on, everyone.โ€ Gloria skillfully redirected the guests. In just a few words, sheโ€™d not only distanced Amelia from any wrongdoing but also restored the lively atmosphere.

The guests exchanged knowing smiles. Maybe Elaine had orchestrated the drama, but Amelia had thrown a drink in the end. Still, Gloriaโ€™s fierce loyalty to her family was as unshakable as ever.

โ€œAmelia, you certainly have a sharp edge.โ€ Patrick strolled over with a glass of wine, his tone laced with mockery.

โ€œI have to teach her a lesson,โ€ Amelia said, lightly brushing her finger over the rose-shaped ring on her hand. Her tone was sharp, laced with meaning. She thought, โ€œIf Patrick dares hurt Landon again, Iโ€™ll make sure to knock him out with a good dose of anesthetic.โ€

โ€œNice ring. Butโ€ฆโ€ Patrick frowned as he glanced at Landon. โ€œYouโ€™re married yet havenโ€™t given her a proper wedding ring?โ€

โ€œWeโ€™ll get one when we have the wedding ceremony,โ€ Landon said.

Amelia thought, โ€œWhat a pipe dream! Once you recover, weโ€™re heading straight for a divorce. What wedding are you talking about?โ€

Patrick said, โ€œWhat if you never get back on your feet? Maybe you should just buy the rings now to avoid giving anyone ideas about swooping in and replacing you.โ€ He crouched down, resting one hand lightly on Landonโ€™s knee.

Ameliaโ€™s heart raced. Panic overrode her cure, and she shoved Patrick away.

Patrick had merely wanted to check if Landonโ€™s legs had any sensation, but Ameliaโ€™s sudden reaction caught him off guard. He toppled backward, landing awkwardly on the floor. The glass in his hand shattered, scattering across the ground.

Seeing the opportunity, Patrick deliberately pressed his right hand into the glass shards. He groaned and held up his bleeding hand. โ€œLandon, Amelia is trying to kill me.โ€

Amelia frowned, thinking, โ€œI just wanted to protect Landon. How did it end up with Patrick getting hurt? Great, now Cynthiaโ€™s definitely going to make a scene.โ€

โ€œPatrick, what happened to your hand?โ€ Cynthia rushed over, grabbing Patrickโ€™s injured hand and exclaiming dramatically.

The mix of blood and red wine on Patrickโ€™s palm made the injury look far more gruesome than it actually was.

โ€œAmelia, are you out of your mind? First, you offended Ms. Inson, and now you hurt Patrick? Are you here to ruin this birthday party?โ€ Cynthiaโ€™s voice was loud enough to draw every guestโ€™s attention again.

Amelia was furious but kept her face composed. โ€œPatrick, Iโ€™d appreciate it if you stayed away from Landon. Otherwise, I might mistake you for a threat and accidentally hurt you again.โ€

โ€œAmelia, youโ€™re overthinking it,โ€ Patrick frowned. โ€œI only wanted to check if Landonโ€™s legs were recovering.โ€

โ€œIs that so?โ€ Amelia replied. โ€œThen my apologies. Iโ€™ve been on edge lately. There are always people trying to harm Landon. It makes me jumpy. Iโ€™d suggest you avoid touching him from now onโ€”wouldnโ€™t want any more unfortunate โ€˜accidentsโ€™!โ€

Ameliaโ€™s calm words carried a pointed message to everyone present. Someone was out to hurt Landon.

The guestsโ€™ expressions shifted. They began to remember something from the past.

Over four months ago, Landonโ€™s car accident, which left him in a vegetative state, had dominated the Norava trending news. People had lamented the fall of a promising young talent.

Then came the revelation that Kenneth had tampered with Landonโ€™s car, causing the accident. Now, after Ameliaโ€™s words, it seemed this might not have been Kennethโ€™s act alone but part of a larger scheme involving Henry and his family.

โ€œWhat nonsense are you talking about, Amelia?โ€ Cynthia was furious, raising her hand to strike Amelia.

Patrick quickly grabbed Cynthiaโ€™s wrist, laughing, โ€œMom, Amelia didnโ€™t mean to hurt me.โ€

โ€œDidnโ€™t mean to? Look at your handโ€”itโ€™s bleeding,โ€ Cynthia exclaimed, clearly distressed. She thought, โ€œYesterday, Landon broke Patrickโ€™s ribs, and today, Amelia injured him. These two are like jinx for my family.โ€

โ€œItโ€™s fine. With Amelia looking out for Landon, we should be grateful,โ€ Patrick said. โ€œLandon is the pillar of the Kingsley family. I hope that you wonโ€™t hesitate to protect him when real threats approach him, Amelia.โ€

Patrick maintained his poised, polite demeanor as if they had simply been joking and Amelia had only hurt Patrick accidentally.

The guests smiled and returned to their celebrations.

Patrick successfully redirected everyoneโ€™s attention and turned the situation around.

Amelia couldnโ€™t hold back her frustration. โ€œDamn it, how shameless.โ€

โ€œHoney, looks like Iโ€™ll be relying on you for protection from now on,โ€ Landon said with a grin.

Ameliaโ€™s temper flared even more. โ€œWhy didnโ€™t you scold him?โ€

โ€œItโ€™s enough that youโ€™re standing up for me,โ€ Landon said. Heโ€™d long seen through Patrickโ€™s tactics.

The little episode just now was merely an appetizer. The main course was yet to come.

โ€œAmelia, whereโ€™s my dress?โ€ Elaine stormed out of the changing room, barely containing her excitement as she asked.

Amelia glanced at Landon, and Landon looked at Aaron.

Aaron responded, โ€œMs. Atkinson, please wait a moment. Itโ€™s on its way.โ€

โ€œLandon, your wife really doesnโ€™t know how to behave. You should teach her some manners,โ€ Elaine said as she tried to sit beside Landon.

Landon immediately moved his wheelchair, creating distance between them. Elaine was speechless.

โ€œMrs. Kingsley, the dress is here. How would you like to pay?โ€ the manager asked.

โ€œSwipe my card.โ€ Amelia pulled out her credit card and made the payment. She thought, โ€œA whopping 56 thousand dollars, ouch. Thankfully, Iโ€™m now a bit of a wealthy woman myself and could afford it.โ€

โ€œThank you, Mrs. Kingsley.โ€ The manager didnโ€™t dare meet Elaineโ€™s gaze, quickly retreating after the payment was made.

Elaine was stunned, muttering, โ€œHow could it be Amelia paying?โ€

โ€œThis is her mess. Sheโ€™s responsible for it,โ€ Landon smiled. โ€œMs. Atkinson, are you happy now?โ€
