Chapter 111

Patrick chuckled, his eyes wild with madness that even scared Henry.

Although Henry was wicked, he was genuinely good to his mother. Afraid Patrick might do something reckless, he warned again, โ€œKennethโ€™s already in prison. If anything happens to your grandma, Iโ€™ll sever all ties with you.โ€

โ€œDad, youโ€™re overthinking it.โ€ Patrick shrugged. His madness and killing intent faded away.

Henry sighed in relief and patted Patrickโ€™s shoulder. โ€œPatrick, donโ€™t rush. Things will work out. Weโ€™ll definitely beat Landon.โ€

โ€œOf course,โ€ Patrick replied.

Henry suggested, โ€œHow about you settle down first? Your grandma will pamper you even more if you have a child.โ€

โ€œThe same goes for Amelia. If she has kids, Grandma will spoil Landon even more.โ€ Patrick squinted. โ€œSo, Amelia canโ€™t get pregnant before I get married.โ€

Henry was speechless. He thought, โ€˜Landonโ€™s recovered, and sooner or later, he and Amelia will have kids. Are we supposed to hide under their bed and stop them?โ€˜

โ€œIโ€™ve got things to do. Iโ€™m leaving.โ€ Patrick waved off, heading out.

Henry sighed in frustration. He thought, โ€˜Every time marriage and children come up, Patrick flips out. What did I do to deserve two sons who are into men?โ€˜

Amelia leaned on the balcony, waiting for Landon to finish washing up while admiring the moon.

The night was so beautiful that it reminded Amelia of her mother. She instinctively reached up to her neck, only to find it empty.

โ€œWhereโ€™s my necklace?โ€ Ameliaโ€™s face paled. She checked her neck againโ€“nothing. The necklace was gone.

Amelia wore that necklace day and night, constantly touching it several times a dayโ€“except for today. Today had been so busy she hadnโ€™t had the time to feel sentimental. โ€˜Where did it go?โ€˜ she thought.

Amelia began searching the house, even rummaging through her car. Still, no luck.

โ€œWhat are you looking for?โ€ Landon had finished washing up and stood in a neatly pressed light gray robe, looking both gentle and handsome.

โ€œMy necklace is gone.โ€ Ameliaโ€™s voice choked with urgency. โ€œThe one Mom left meโ€“the pendantโ€ฆโ€

โ€œDonโ€™t worry, weโ€™ll find it,โ€ Landon said. He knew how much that pendant meant to Amelia and immediately involved the whole family in the search. Still, no luck.

โ€œCould it have been left at Kingsley Manor?โ€ Amelia clutched her chest. โ€œI clearly remember it was still on my neck before I left today.โ€

โ€œIโ€™ll have my men check.โ€ Landon dialed Kingsley Manor and told the staff to make sure they found the necklace.

Amelia sat on the edge of the bed, feeling as empty as her neck. She thought, โ€˜Itโ€™s the only thing I have left from my mom. If I canโ€™t get it backโ€ฆโ€ Her heart tightened, and tears welled up in her eyes. She wanted to cry.

โ€œDonโ€™t worry, weโ€™ll find it,โ€ Landon comforted Amelia. โ€œAfter leaving the house today, we only went to Kingsley Manor. It must be there.โ€

Amelia asked, โ€œWhat if a guest found it? Or if a kid picked it up, thought it was just junk, and threw it away?โ€

โ€œThen weโ€™ll ask every guest,โ€ Landon replied confidently.

โ€œThat would be too rude. People would laugh at you.โ€ Ameliaโ€™s eyes reddened even more. She was both upset and touched.

Inviting people over and then going doorโ€“toโ€“door asking if anyone found the necklace wasnโ€™t something someone like Landon should be doing.

โ€œLaugh? Theyโ€™d probably just say, โ€˜Mr. Kingsley loves his wife too much,โ€ Landon laughed.

The moonlight outside bathed Landonโ€™s face, making his features look even softer.

For a moment, Amelia was lost in thought. โ€˜We act like a loving couple in public, but why is it the same at home? Could it be that he has feelings for me?โ€˜

Ameliaโ€™s heart skipped a beat, and when she looked at Landon again, she felt strangely guilty. She reminded herself of the arrangement. โ€˜Iโ€™m just his employee who gets paid on a daily basis.โ€˜

Amelia needed to remind Landon, โ€œBy the way, you havenโ€™t paid me for todayโ€™s work.โ€

Landonโ€™s eye twitched. His mood instantly soured. He lowered his head, silently transferring the money while thinking, โ€˜Money is all you care about. With me around, do you really think youโ€™ll ever lack it?โ€˜

Amelia choked on her saliva. She thought, โ€˜Oh my gosh, whatโ€™s wrong with him? Could he really have fallen in love with me?โ€˜

Ameliaโ€™s face heated up. Her cheeks visibly reddened. She thought, โ€˜This is Landon, the brightest young man in Norava. So many noble young women couldnโ€™t even catch his eye. Have I really won his heart?โ€˜

โ€œYou are blushing,โ€ Landon observed, pleased with Ameliaโ€™s reaction. He thought, โ€˜Itโ€™s great that she can hear my inner thoughts, letting me express things I couldnโ€™t say out loud. Now, itโ€™s up to her whether she accepts my feelings.

โ€œIs it?โ€ Amelia flustered. She raised her hand to cover her face, not daring to look at Landon.

โ€œYou look shy. What are you thinking?โ€ Landon asked, staring at Amelia.

Amelia panicked even more. โ€œNโ€“Nothingโ€ฆโ€

Landon said, โ€œYouโ€™re definitely thinking about sex.โ€

Amelia choked again. โ€œIโ€™m not.โ€

Landon asked, โ€œThen why are you blushing?โ€

โ€œIโ€ฆโ€ Amelia trailed off. She thought, โ€˜Itโ€™s all because of your creepy inner monologue.โ€˜

โ€œAmelia, actually, Iโ€™m pretty much fully recovered now. If you really want, I could reluctantly help you out,โ€ Landon said, casually opening his shirt to reveal his firm chest.

Amelia quickly pulled Landonโ€™s shirt back down. โ€œI swear I wasnโ€™t thinking anything, really.โ€

Just then, Ameliaโ€™s phone buzzed with a new message.

Amelia nearly jumped at the chance for a distraction, quickly saying, โ€œIt might be work. Let me check.โ€

When Amelia opened it, she saw Patrick had sent her a message about the pendant: [I have it. Come get it tomorrow. But remember, donโ€™t tell Landon.]

Amelia frowned. She thought, โ€˜Patrick isnโ€™t doing this out of kindness, especially after I publicly injured his hand today. Tomorrowโ€™s meeting feels like a trap.โ€˜

โ€œWho was it?โ€ Landon noticed Ameliaโ€™s change in expression and asked.

Amelia, thinking about Patrickโ€™s threat, handed her phone to Landon. โ€œYou can see for yourself.โ€

โ€œSo itโ€™s with him,โ€ Landon smirked.

Amelia was furious and punched Landonโ€™s arm. โ€œHow can you still smile?โ€

โ€œYour honesty makes me happy,โ€ Landon said, grabbing Ameliaโ€™s fist. โ€œThis is how it should be. Anything thatโ€™s going on, you should always discuss it with your husband.โ€

โ€œDonโ€™t be so cheesy at home,โ€ Amelia said, her ears turning red. Calling Landon โ€œdarlingโ€ in public was natural, but it still felt a little awkward at home. Then again, it was because they werenโ€™t a real married couple.

โ€œThatโ€™s how it should be between spouses,โ€ Landon replied, smiling. โ€œYouโ€™ll arrange a time with him. Tomorrow, Iโ€™ll go with you.โ€

Amelia said, โ€œBut he wonโ€™t let you come.โ€

Landon said, โ€œWe donโ€™t have to listen to him.โ€

Landon was confident, and Amelia finally relaxed. He was amazingโ€“every time he took action, she trusted him.

It was extraordinary. This time wouldnโ€™t be any different.

โ€œAlright, time to sleep,โ€ Landon said.

Amelia nodded. She snuggled into her small bed. After a long day, she quickly drifted off to sleep.

Landon shifted his long legs slightly, desire stirring inside him. In truth, his legs were fully healed now. He could make a baby with Amelia.
