โโฆpendant.โ
โDonโt worry, weโll find it,โ Landon said. He knew how much that pendant meant to Amelia and immediately involved the whole family in the search. Still, no luck.
โCould it have been left at Kingsley Manor?โ Amelia clutched her chest. โI clearly remember it was still on my neck before I left today.โ
โIโll have my men check.โ Landon dialed Kingsley Manor and told the staff to make sure they found the necklace.
Amelia sat on the edge of the bed, feeling as empty as her neck. She thought, โItโs the only thing I have left from my mom. If I canโt get it backโฆโ Her heart tightened, and tears welled up in her eyes. She wanted to cry.
โDonโt worry, weโll find it,โ Landon comforted Amelia. โAfter leaving the house today, we only went to Kingsley Manor. It must be there.โ
Amelia asked, โWhat if a guest found it? Or if a kid picked it up, thought it was just junk, and threw it away?โ
โThen weโll ask every guest,โ Landon replied confidently.
Chapter 111
โThat would be too rude. People would laugh at you.โ Ameliaโs eyes reddened even more. She was both upset and touched.
Inviting people over and then going door-to-door asking if anyone found the necklace wasnโt something someone like Landon should be doing.
โLaugh? Theyโd probably just say, โMr. Kingsley loves his wife too much,โโ Landon laughed.
The moonlight outside bathed Landonโs face, making his features look even softer.
For a moment, Amelia was lost in thought. โWe act like a loving couple in public, but why is it the same at home? Could it be that he has feelings for me?โ
Ameliaโs heart skipped a beat, and when she looked at Landon again, she felt strangely guilty. She reminded herself of the arrangement. โIโm just his employee who gets paid on a daily basis.โ
Amelia needed to remind Landon, โBy the way, you havenโt paid me for todayโs work.โ
Landonโs eye twitched. His mood instantly soured. He lowered his head, silently transferring the money while thinking, โMoney is all you care about. With me around, do you really think youโll ever lack it?โ
Amelia choked on her saliva. She thought, โOh my gosh, whatโs wrong with him? Could he really have fallen in love with me?โ
Ameliaโs face heated up. Her cheeks visibly reddened. She thought, โThis is Landon, the brightest young man in Norava. So many noble young women couldnโt even catch his eye. Have I really won his heart?โ
โYou are blushing,โ Landon observed, pleased with Ameliaโs reaction. He thought, โItโs great that she can hear my inner thoughts, letting me express things I couldnโt say out loud. Now, itโs up to her whether she accepts my feelings.โ
โIs it?โ Amelia flustered. She raised her hand to cover her face, not daring to look at Landon.
โYou look shy. What are you thinking?โ Landon asked, staring at Amelia.
Amelia panicked even more. โNโNothingโฆโ
Landon said, โYouโre definitely thinking about sex.โ
Amelia choked again. โIโm not.โ
Landon asked, โThen why are you blushing?โ
โIโฆโ Amelia trailed off. She thought, โItโs all because of your creepy inner monologue.โ
โAmelia, actually, Iโm pretty much fully recovered now. If you really want, I could reluctantly help you out,โ Landon said, casually opening his shirt to reveal his firm chest.
Amelia quickly pulled Landonโs shirt back down. โI swear I wasnโt thinking anything, really.โ
Just then, Ameliaโs phone buzzed with a new message.
Amelia nearly jumped at the chance for a distraction, quickly saying, โIt might be work. Let me check.โ
When Amelia opened it, she saw Patrick had sent her a message about the pendant: [I have it. Come get it tomorrow. But remember, donโt tell Landon.]
Amelia frowned. She thought, โPatrick isnโt doing this out of kindness, especially after I publicly injured his hand today. Tomorrowโs meeting feels like a trap.โ
โWho was it?โ Landon noticed Ameliaโs change in expression and asked.
Amelia, thinking about Patrickโs threat, handed her phone to Landon. โYou can see for yourself.โ
โSo itโs with him.โ Landon smirked.
Amelia was furious and punched Landonโs arm. โHow can you still smile?โ
โYour honesty makes me happy,โ Landon said, grabbing Ameliaโs fist. โThis is how it should be. Anything thatโs going on, you should always discuss it with your husband.โ
โDonโt be so cheesy at home,โ Amelia said, her ears turning red. Calling Landon โdarlingโ in public was natural, but it still felt a little awkward at home. Then again, it was because they werenโt a real married couple.
โThatโs how it should be between spouses,โ Landon replied, smiling. โYouโll arrange a time with him. Tomorrow, Iโll go with you.โ
