Chapter 755
Production at the studio had just begun, so there was little to do. Lily spent a few days deliberating on the series theme for Lisa's order. She couldn't begin developing the fragrance until she settled on a theme and basic concept.
In the early afternoon, Lily suggested Olivia go home and rest while she tied up loose ends and outlined the preliminary concept. She sat for nearly an hour, struggling to think of solutions; all she could consider was whether to give up the child or her job. Meanwhile, she constantly twirled a piece of wood Benedict had given her, captivated by its lingering scent. It wasn't strong, but its fragrance persisted.
"Your business hasn't even officially started. Do you have to work so hard?"
Alexander, having a key to the studio, entered and found her lost in thought. Lily was surprised.
"Why are you here? Did you get off work early?"
"I came to help, but it seems unnecessary." Alexander glanced around. "Everything looks great. Your equipment seems more complete now."
"Olivia helped arrange it, but I sent her home early; there's not much to do for now."
"Then why haven't you gone home?"
He took the wood from her hand. "What's this?"
"Benedict gave it to me. I haven't had time to examine it until now," she said. "Speaking of which, I haven't heard from him in a while. He said he was looking for wood, but he's been missing. Why hasn't he returned?" Alexander crouched, regarding her curiously.
"You keep mentioning another man's name. Aren't you worried I'll get jealous?" Lily rolled her eyes.
"He's just a child, okay?"
"From what I know, he's twenty and only a couple of years younger than you." He tapped her nose. "And he talks like an old man."
"Really?" Lily was surprised he wasn't a teenager. "To me, he's just a child."
The topic of children made her uneasy. She wanted to say something to Alexander as he twirled the wood, but hesitated. "What's wrong?"
Sensing her gaze, Alexander touched his face.
"Am I too good-looking for you to stop staring?"
"You're so self-absorbed," she teased.
Though a joke, Alexander was undeniably handsome. He laughed, his eyes meeting hers, then growing reflective.
"Has something been bothering you the last couple of days?" He'd noticed her troubled demeanor.
"Do you like children?" she asked tentatively.
Alexander considered her question seriously. "Not particularly."
Disappointed, Lily fell silent. Seconds later, he clarified, "However, if you're their mother, I'd love them."
Lily was speechless.
