Chapter 575

Nathanโ€™s injury was on the lower part of his right shoulder, leaving his whole right arm pretty much useless. Even something as simple as eating had become a hassle.

โ€œLet me help you sit up,โ€ I said, walking over to the bed and bending down to support his other arm.

As I leaned over, my loose hair slipped down, landing softly in the crook of Nathanโ€™s arm. He pushed himself up, and I noticed a faint blush creeping across his handsome face.

I set the meal in front of him. โ€œLet me feed you. Your right handโ€™s out of commission.โ€

โ€œItโ€™s okay, I can manage with my left,โ€ Nathan replied with a gentle smile, turning down my offer.

โ€œYouโ€™re not really used to using your left hand, are you?โ€ I figured he was just feeling a bit shy about it.

He was this badly hurtโ€“of course I should help him. There was nothing to be embarrassed about.

โ€œMy left hand works just as well as my right. When things get busy, I can even write with it,โ€ Nathan said with a smile.

โ€œReally?โ€ I was genuinely surprised. I hadnโ€™t expected Nathan to be so good with both hands. People say those who can use both hands are supposed to be really smartโ€“looks like Nathan definitely is.

Sure enough, Nathan handled everything with his left hand like it was nothing.

I sat beside him, just watching as he ate. After a couple of bites, Nathan glanced over at me. โ€œHave you eaten yet?โ€

โ€œIโ€™m not hungry,โ€ I said, shaking my head.

โ€œCome on, thatโ€™s not good for you. Skipping meals will mess up your stomach. Eat a little with me, okay?โ€ Nathan urged, concern in his voice.

I couldnโ€™t refuse, so I picked up my fork and joined him.

The room was quiet, the only sound the gentle hum of the heater.

We chatted about work as we ate. Nathan explained some business stuff to me, but it all went over my head. I just couldnโ€™t wrap my mind around it.

Seeing my confused expression, Nathan chuckled softly. โ€œAlright, I guess all this business talk is a bit much. Donโ€™t worry, your moneyโ€™s in good hands. Mr. Holcombโ€™s been giving me some great advice lately. His ideas and insights into the future are really valuable. I didnโ€™t expect him to know so much about tech and renewable energy.โ€

I froze for a second. Jared had invested in Nathanโ€™s company, and with all those memories from his previous life, he understood the ins and outs of tech development way better than I ever could as a housewife. With Jared showing Nathan the way, who knowsโ€“maybe his company could go higher and further than anyone expected.

Jared really was a sly fox. Young as he was, he never seemed to lose out when it came to investment strategy. I should definitely pick his brain about investing whenever I get the chance. If I follow his lead, I bet I could dodge a ton of risks.

โ€œIโ€™m really glad you two can get along,โ€ I said with a smile.

โ€œHonestly, we never really saw eye to eye, but since our interests are tied together, we just have to talk,โ€ Nathan replied with a helpless smile.

Thinking about that little group chat where Nathan and Jared were always butting heads, I couldnโ€™t help but press my lips together to stifle a laugh.

โ€œWhatโ€™s so funny?โ€ Nathan asked, his deep gaze lingering on my face for a few seconds, almost mesmerized.

I started telling him about his arguments with Jared in the group chat. Nathan put down his fork and lazily leaned his left shoulder against the pillow. โ€œWorkโ€™s already stressful enough. Sometimes, a bit of bickering and venting is just how we blow off steam.โ€

โ€œWell, this time itโ€™s all Jaredโ€™s fault you got hurt. Next time you want to argue with him, just go for itโ€“donโ€™t bother being polite,โ€ I said.

Nathan gave me a meaningful look. โ€œIf I hadnโ€™t gotten injured, how else would I get to enjoy this quiet time alone with you? Honestly, I donโ€™t think itโ€™s such a bad thing.โ€

I blinked, then said softly, almost reproachful, โ€œNathan, getting hurt is really scary. I donโ€™t want you treating it like some kind of bonus in life. I just want you to stay safe, alwaysโ€“no more getting hurt, okay?โ€

Seeing how serious I was, Nathan finally dropped the playful act.

โ€œAlright, Iโ€™ll make sure to take care of myself and not get hurt again. Please donโ€™t be mad at me over something like this, okay?โ€ Nathan said, his voice gentle.

โ€œIโ€™m not mad,โ€ I said, shaking my head. I got up, cleared the table, and poured Nathan a cup of hot water.

โ€œDo you want an apple?โ€ I asked him.

โ€œSure!โ€ Nathan leaned back comfortably, his whole demeanor easy and gentle.
