Chapter 13: Meeting Anthony Again
Abigail didn't wait for Sean. When he left the ward after comforting Cornelie, only Kevin and Joan remained in the corridor. Seeing Sean, she approached him anxiously, asking, "How is Grandma?"
His gaze was cold, but his tone was even. "She's fine. But you're not allowed any contact with her from now on."
She felt aggrieved. "Sean, Grandma's getting older; she needs someone to talk to. I was just keeping her company." He stared at her, making her uneasy. She bit her lip and softly asked, "What's wrong?"
Nearby, Kevin watched with interest.
"I don't like people who overstep boundaries," he said calmly.
She swallowed and whispered, "Okay."
"As long as you follow the rules, you'll get what you want. Understand?" Sean straightened his sleeves.
"Yes," she nodded.
Sean glanced at Kevin, who immediately understood. "Miss Palmer, let me take you back. You have filming tomorrow."
"Okay," Joan nodded.
Sean texted Abigail: 'Do you not care about my grandmother at all now?'
Driving to meet a professor recommended by Lewis, she replied: 'Something important came up. She just needs you to stay with her!'
He furrowed his brows, leaning against the wall as he slowly typed: 'Did Anthony ask for you?'
She rolled her eyes, but explained: 'No. I need to meet a professor for my boss.'
Sean pondered her message. Why is she so reluctant to tell me her true identity?
Meanwhile, Kevin and Joan got into the car. As he started the engine, she asked, "Abigail and Sean are cousins, right? No wonder he did her such a big favor on the show and protected her."
He was momentarily surprised, but quickly recovered, smiling. "Don't pry into his affairs. Even if you ask me, I wouldn't dare answer. You know his personality."
"I'm just saying," she leaned back, relaxed.
Through the rearview mirror, he asked, "Why do you think they're cousins?"
"Sean keeps his marriage a secret. He probably thinks his wife isn't presentable, so why would he bring her around me? Plus, you mentioned they're family, so they must be relatives." She analyzed confidently.
He almost laughed, but simply nodded. "That makes sense."
Then he received a text: 'After dropping her off, hurry back to the hospital to take care of my grandmother!'
His expression soured. I was going to have some fun. It's a rare day off from filming!
Abigail entered the hotel's private room, as instructed by Lewis, and saw Anthony sitting inside. Why is he here again?
Lewis, discussing historical details with a professor, stood up enthusiastically upon seeing Abigail. "Mr. Booker reserved a seat for you. You should discuss costume issues with Professor Gibson."
To her right was Professor Luke Gibson; to her left, Anthony. This seating arrangement… She nodded and looked at Anthony, who smiled charmingly.
"Lewis asked me to keep an eye on things. I hadn't had dinner, so I thought I'd join the fun," he explained, smiling.
She couldn't understand him, so she sat down.
Luke was slender, one eye damaged, with red flesh over the iris. He appeared solemn and unapproachable.
"Nice to meet you, Professor Gibson," Abigail greeted him politely.
After a nod, Luke asked, "How much do you know about the history of the Western Roman Empire's fall?"
She was honest. "I've just begun exploring it. Most historical series focus on the 18th and 19th centuries, so there's limited information on the Western Roman Empire's fall. I haven't delved deeply into it yet."
"You make a valid point. It was a brutal period," he said without condescension.
Anthony, meanwhile, lazily watched her without blinking.
Abigail was extremely humble when consulting with Luke, constantly recording his words on her phone. She wished to memorize everything. She learned a great deal that evening.
After dinner, they left the hotel.
"Thank you, Mr. Booker. If it weren't for you, I'd still be researching aimlessly," Abigail thanked him sincerely at the entrance.
She learned from Lewis that Luke was notoriously difficult to invite. He was participating in an academic exchange; Anthony had persuaded him and arranged for Abigail to learn from him.
Anthony lowered his head and looked at her with a charming smile.
Not far away, Sean sat in his car, his eyes cold, his jaw clenched.
