Chapter 88: Useless Ex-Husband
Victor sat on the couch, looking aggrieved. “I asked the production team for the medication I wanted for her, but they didn’t have it. I’ve used it before for minor wounds—it’s really good—so I asked someone to get it for me.”
Luna picked up the medication they’d brought and Googled it. The price was exorbitant, and it was only available at the largest drugstores in the city. “I’ll try it on you, then,” Luna told Abigail, putting away her phone.
Abigail looked at Victor and sat down. “You have to tell the truth if you want to stay. Otherwise, they’ll kick you off the production team.”
Luna crouched before Abigail, placing Abigail’s leg on her lap. She squeezed some medication onto her ankle and massaged it.
Victor looked at them innocently, his eyes red-rimmed. “I wouldn’t hurt you, even if I was mad.”
Abigail pursed her lips and stared at Victor. She suddenly realized Sean had a keen eye for people. Victor was a smart man. Back in the elevator, he probably knew about her connection with Sean, which is why he helped her.
Abigail wasn't opposed to his maneuvering; he was only looking out for his future. Being smart was advantageous in this industry. At least he wasn't malicious.
Kevin narrowed his eyes and harrumphed. “You can claim innocence after we get the investigation results. It won’t work before then.” He saw Abigail was convinced, but he was more pragmatic. He’d only trust the evidence.
Luna looked at Kevin and put Abigail’s leg down. “After the IV infusion, let him rest. Can we have results by tomorrow?”
Abigail moved her ankle. It felt cool and no longer hurt much; it was like she’d been injected with anesthetic. The stinging had subsided. Kevin instructed his men to take Victor back.
Once he was gone, Kevin smirked at Abigail. “I know what you’re thinking. You think he’s fine, you want to keep him, but honestly, you can’t.”
Abigail looked at him calmly. “Sean’s idea? Why?”
“You know how petty he can be. Mr. Graham won’t let anyone stand in his way. Even if Victor didn’t do it, someone else would be kicked out,” Kevin said flatly.
“And if I want him to stay? Does his pettiness mean he won’t forgive anyone who uses a little trickery to get ahead?” Abigail asked coldly.
Kevin quickly said, “Calm down, Abigail. The case isn’t settled yet. We’ll talk once we have the results.”
“When you have the results, you’ll tell Sean first and have Victor kicked out, won’t you?” Abigail demanded.
Kevin quickly said, “No, of course not. I’ll tell you first, alright?”
Abigail looked into Kevin’s eyes. Earnestly, she said, “I don’t think Victor is wrong for helping me. It’s for a better future. If he’s innocent, I want him to stay. I’m saying this as Sean’s wife.”
Kevin nodded. “Of course. I understand.”
Luna, bored, asked, “Done?”
“Yes. Get some rest. I’m going back.” Kevin was also kind to Luna.
After Kevin left, Luna looked at Abigail solemnly. “You slept with Sean?”
Abigail’s composure crumbled. She looked sheepish. “I was going to call you, but I got the wrong number. The drug was too strong.”
Luna huddled closer and whispered, “I can’t believe he actually helped you. And for three hours? That’s impressive.”
“Let’s not talk about that,” Abigail blushed, her lips dry.
“Then let’s talk about Victor. You know he’s not as innocent as he seems, so why are you keeping him?” Luna asked. She knew Abigail wasn’t that type of person.
Abigail said calmly, “When you couldn’t come, Joan and some other designers tripped me, but he helped me. When I hurt my leg, he was the only one who cared and got me medication. Even if he isn’t innocent, so what?”
