Chapter 89: Slandered
Luna nodded. “He should be bailed. He’s better than Sean, anyway. Aside from sleeping with you, that guy’s useless.”
Abigail’s cheeks burned. “Stop talking about that. I’m not sleepy, anyway. Let’s deal with the clothes.”
Luna said, “Whatever you want.”
Kevin didn’t return to his room. Instead, he went to Sean’s.
Sean sat at his desk. Coolly, he said, “All settled?”
Kevin approached and put his hands on the table. The usually flippant guy’s demeanor changed. “I talked to Abigail. She thinks Victor didn’t mean any harm.”
Sean, who was reviewing files, stopped. “Just spit it out.”
Kevin looked at him and stammered, “I—I won’t hold back, then.”
“You talk too much,” Sean said impatiently.
Kevin quickly said, “Abigail said that if Victor wasn’t responsible, we should let it slide.”
Sean said nothing. He intended to go against Abigail and remove Victor from the production team.
Kevin scratched his head. “I think you should reflect on yourself. Don’t try to kick everyone out. You can’t guarantee she’ll always have suitors.”
Sean tossed his file aside and looked at Kevin coolly. “What should I reflect on?”
Kevin said, concerned, “You asked that so matter-of-factly. You have no idea, huh? Victor helped Abigail with everything when her leg was hurt. Of course, she’s grateful.”
Sean fell silent. He had helped Abigail with the draft, too, but she hadn’t seemed grateful. “I call the shots in the production team, not her,” he said, picking up his file again.
Kevin was miffed. “I think Victor’s innocent.”
“None of your business. Leave. I want evidence, not conjecture,” Sean said coldly.
The next day, Kevin entered Luna’s room and found Abigail and Victor there. A staff member threw Victor to the ground. Victor explained, “You don’t trust me either, Ms. Quinn? Yes, I approached you to gain something, but I swear I didn’t intend to harm you.”
Luna sat at the sewing machine, pretending to work. She fiddled with a shirt and asked Kevin, “Found anything?”
“Yes. The chat history is still on his phone.” Kevin handed Victor’s phone to Abigail.
Abigail examined the chat history between Victor and Damian. Besides requests for Abigail’s leg medication, there was a request for an unfamiliar medicine.
“I have no idea about that medication. I swear, the production team wouldn’t keep that kind of stuff around. Don’t you think this is fishy, Mr. Stewart?” Victor explained, his eyes reddening.
The medication was an aphrodisiac available online.
“I’ll see if the production team has any of this. The fact is, this chat history is real. Don’t tell me someone stole your phone,” Kevin sneered, dismissing Victor’s explanation.
He’d been stressed about Abigail and Sean’s disagreement, but the situation resolved itself.
Abigail reviewed the chat history and noted Victor and Damian weren’t close; they barely communicated. He wouldn’t ask a near-stranger for something dangerous.
Abigail returned the phone to Kevin. “I’d like to hear his explanation in detail, Mr. Stewart.”
Kevin, momentarily happy, lost that feeling. “You trust him?”
Abigail didn’t answer, instead looking at the tearful Victor. She asked, “Why did you ask him to buy that for you?”
“I was going to get the medication myself, but the team said they didn’t have it, so I asked if they could get it for me. I offered tips, but no one accepted,” Victor said slowly.
“And?” Abigail asked.
Kevin listened, upset.
Victor choked back tears. “Mr. Light got angry because he couldn’t find me to get my measurements. I explained, and he said he’d help once things were done. I was worried he’d get the wrong pill, so I told him the medication’s name. I promise I didn’t ask him for the second medicine.”
