Chapter 150: Frustrations
"Give her flowers, bags, cars, or even a house, if necessary," Jimmy said nonchalantly, leaning against the railing.
Nathael frowned. He disagreed with Jimmy.
Jimmy smirked mischievously. "You can even beg for her forgiveness at her feet."
Nathael was speechless. He ended the call without waiting for Jimmy's response.
I was foolish to ask him about it.
The following morning, Maggie woke up early for class, but felt unwell from staying up late. She received a call from Ronald after arriving in the classroom and went to a secluded corner in the corridor to answer it.
"Maggie, are you with Nathael?"
Maggie lowered her gaze. "I almost had him, but Joseph almost ruined it. Dad, do you know what he told Nathael last night when he stormed in?"
Ronald was surprised. He'd heard bits and pieces from Joseph, but not the whole story.
"He told Nathael I had ulterior motives. I don't know what he wants. Doesn't he realize how crucial Nathael's support is for the Camerons?" Maggie sounded frustrated.
Ronald paused, frowning. "You're saying he accused you in front of Nathael?"
"Yes, I didn't tell him where I was, and I don't know how he found out," Maggie sighed, trying to maintain her composure. She had planned what to say last night after leaving the room. What Ronald had asked her to do was ridiculous.
Ronald's expression darkened. "Continue pursuing Nathael, and I'll speak to him later."
"I'd finally gained Nathael's trust, and now my efforts are all in vain," Maggie sobbed.
After Ronald consoled her, she asked, "Dad, are you guys hiding something from me?" Ronald's heart skipped a beat, fearing Maggie had discovered something.
"I was just speculating. I couldn't understand why Joseph did that, and I wondered if there were other plans."
Ronald was relieved Maggie hadn't uncovered any secrets.
"Don't be upset. Perhaps he was just upset about what Nathael did to you."
Maggie feigned surprise. "Why would you accuse me of something I didn't do, then?"
Ronald hadn't expected this question. Taken aback by her suspicions, he'd simply brushed her off while consoling her. He didn't know how to answer.
"Maggie… I think Joseph just wants to protect you by preventing you from getting involved with Nathael," Ronald defended Joseph, unable to think of another explanation.
Joseph's interference and accusations, just as Maggie was on the verge of success, left Ronald baffled.
Maggie's eyes were cold after ending the call. If Joseph hadn't caused a scene, she wouldn't know how to handle things. Once her relationship with Nathael became public, who knew what troubles might arise? The timing wasn't right for Nathael to become a scapegoat for the Camerons.
After hanging up, Maggie spotted a man in a white shirt leaning against a window in the corridor, patiently waiting. He looked at her with charming eyes.
Sensing she'd finished, Nathael looked directly at her. He looked pitiful to Maggie. How had he found her? The hotel housed many international students and designers; finding her classroom wasn't difficult.
Maggie maintained a straight face and looked away, heading straight to the classroom. Nathael's gaze followed her until she disappeared, loneliness in his eyes. He'd overheard her conversation with Ronald.
She might not understand Joseph's actions, but he did. Joseph liked her. He thought she was unimportant and should prioritize the Camerons. Deep down, however, he cared for her. He wanted her.
When Joseph accused and degraded her, he only wanted to hurt her. He didn't want Maggie with Nathael. He wanted to manipulate her into staying away from him. Joseph, Maggie, and Ronald hadn't realized this yet.
Nathael remained in the corridor until the professor arrived for class, then left. Although Maggie wasn't bothered by him, she couldn't help but notice him, only looking at the spot where he'd stood after he left.
Maggie pursed her lips. Did he leave just like that? Why didn't he coax me? I even felt sorry for leaving him there.
There was a twenty-minute break in the two-hour class. Maggie went for a walk, but Nathael was nowhere to be seen. She forced a smile. Well, that's fine.
Why would anyone date a guy like Nathael? He'd even been married before. How frustrating!
Meanwhile, after a meeting in the hotel's conference room, Nathael went to the florist outside.
"Sir, are you buying for your girlfriend or mother? Need help with the arrangement?" the friendly florist asked, as several girls looked at him admiringly. Such a handsome man!
"Thank you, I can do it myself," Nathael replied. He wanted to create the bouquet himself; he could have asked Alex to order one if he needed help.
