Chapter 92
"Honey, what nonsense are you talking about? I can afford to give your parents the amount I said. I want to prove to them you didn't marry the wrong guy, and I really want to throw you a wedding. I swear. Please trust me," Severin said, raising his hand in a gesture of oath.
His genuine expression belied any deception.
Diane pondered for a moment. "Oh, I know! Are you thinking of selling this villa? It's worth at least twelve million dollars, and there aren't many like it on the market. We could probably sell it for thirteen million, right?"
Before Severin could respond, she continued, "Severin, if you're trying to prove yourself by selling this villa, do you think my parents will think any differently of you? Aside from them, I would look down on you. Even though it's a gift from Henry, is it appropriate to sell it right after he gave it to us?"
Severin was at a loss whether to laugh or cry. He was amazed Diane thought he would sell the villa. Her worried expression assured him she'd be terrified if he showed her the balance on the card the "old wacko" had given him. However, he had no choice but to reveal the card.
Making up his mind, he said, "Honey, what is this? I already told you I have the money. I met a generous man in prison, and he gave me a bank card with money on it!"
"Ha, ha! What generous man has seven million dollars?" Diane smiled disdainfully.
Severin, gritting his teeth, said, "It's three hundred million dollars!"
"Three hundred million dollars?" Diane doubted. "Severin, are you bluffing? Do you really think that man is so stupid as to give you three hundred million dollars?"
Severin was speechless. To avoid this, he'd already lowered the amount to what he thought Diane would believe, yet she still didn't believe him. Luckily, he hadn't told her the real amount!
"I'm serious! I'll be damned if I'm lying!" Severin again raised his hand.
"Will you go to the bank with me now to show me the balance?" Diane remained unconvinced, her beautiful eyes searching his.
"I" Severin looked troubled.
What am I going to do when Diane sees the figure? he thought. What if it's too shocking, and she has a heart attack? The balance is definitely more than I said
Severin's troubled expression convinced Diane he was bluffing. Angry, she clenched her fist. "Severin Feuillet! How long will you continue to lie to me? It doesn't matter if you're poor. We can work hard together. I believe things will get better. I can't accept you lying to me. We can be poor; that's fine. Is your ego really that important?"
Severin remembered the business card the branch director had given him, which he'd tossed into his bedside drawer.
He said, "I'm not lying. You want to see the balance? I'll take you to the bank now. Wait here! My card is upstairs. I need to get it!"
He stormed upstairs.
"Does he really have three hundred million dollars?" Diane was stunned by Severin's sudden action.
Just then, Judith and Maurice returned.
Judith looked at Diane. "Hey, Diane, Severin let anger get the better of him. He's just saying things without thinking. Don't worry. Even if he can't pay that money, we won't let him divorce you. If he dares, we'll disown him!"
"That's right. You've waited for him so long, through so much. He's inhuman if he leaves you. We'll only allow a separation if you want it. If he dares leave you, I—I'll choke him to death!" Maurice vehemently agreed.
