Chapter 87
“Didn’t Lettie mention anything? I have to talk to her. I’m confident that she’ll come up with a solution,” said Cedric.
Grace glanced at him. “Lettie’s still in the hospital. The problem can’t be solved even if you visit her.”
After Grace finished speaking, she glanced at the office. Cedric noticed that subtle movement. Now calm, he observed her curiously. “I’m intrigued since you mentioned that. By the way, Ms. Fammer, you asked me to come in early. Do you have any additional motives behind that?”
Cedric shook his head and stepped back. “Listen, don’t try to get my attention. I only love Lettie, and there’s no doubt about it.”
Grace was stunned, her eyes brimming with dissatisfaction. She was frustrated. “Even if I were blind, I’d never love a man like you.”
He snorted coldly and started to condemn her. “Who can really tell what you’re thinking? Women often act one way in public and another in private. The more you deny it, the more you want it. You’re Lettie’s best friend. How can you behave like this?”
Grace was rendered speechless, contemplating whether he might be experiencing paranoid delusions.
“Grace, could you please come in first?” Scarlett’s voice rang out from the office.
Grace glared at Cedric. Meanwhile, Cedric feigned anxiety and entered the office. “Lettie, when were you discharged from the hospital? Why haven’t you gone to the villa?”
He froze in disbelief when he saw Scarlett standing up.
Grace forcefully shoved Cedric aside. “What are you still doing here? Move out of my way.”
Grace quickly removed the files but couldn’t resist glancing at Scarlett’s legs. She was pleasantly surprised by how effective the steroid injection turned out to be.
Cedric regained his composure a moment later and said, “Lettie, I’m genuinely happy for you. It’s great to see you stand up again.”
He cried, and Scarlett’s heart softened. She hugged him and asked, “I’m fine. Why are you crying?”
Grace felt disdain at that sight.
“Lettie, I’m really happy for you. I didn’t expect you to actually recover,” replied Cedric.
Scarlett shook her head slightly. “I discharged myself from the hospital for you and will return tomorrow.”
Upon hearing her words, Cedric was deeply moved and felt grateful.
Grace wanted to cover her eyes when she saw the scene before her. “It’s getting late. The board should send someone soon.”
Cedric regained his composure and insisted, “Lettie, you must believe me. I truly know nothing about those matters.”
Scarlett gave a subtle nod. “Cedric, I trust you. This isn’t your fault. I’ll explain it to the board.”
He felt relieved when he heard Scarlett would tackle the problem. He chuckled. “Lettie, I knew you’d help me through this.”
Grace left to get fresh air, unable to watch any longer. Meanwhile, Payne Group’s board of directors had arrived downstairs.
In the meeting room, Grace sneered at the familiar faces in front of her.
“I can sense that many of you are anticipating my arrival in a wheelchair, but I must disappoint you. I instructed Cedric to join the company and oversee everything. All the documents came through fine. Do you have any questions?”
Scarlett stepped up to take the lead while the rest of the upper management remained silent.
Bryce Payne, being a wise man, smiled reassuringly and replied, “Lettie, there’s no need for you to feel so anxious.”
