Chapter 98

Zoe was worried as she watched Leroy prepare to leave. “It’s not a big deal. It’s just a few days off,” Leroy smiled, but Zoe remained silent. The decision was entirely justifiable. It involved not only the youngest and most promising doctor but also the hospital’s reputation. Both aspects warranted careful consideration. Cedric sneered. “Who can say if Dr. Olson will be ready to give up after leaving the hospital? It’s uncertain when he’ll be back to work.” Wesley frowned as Scarlett cleared her throat. “I’m feeling a bit tired. Could you take me back first?” Cedric was taken aback but quickly moved to escort Scarlett back to her ward. Meanwhile, Wesley cast a glance at Tessa and the others before checking on Xenia’s condition. Once he confirmed that everything was stable, he exhaled in relief. “It’s nothing serious. It just takes time to heal.” Afterward, he shot a meaningful glance at Leroy, who promptly exited the ward. Without hesitation, Zoe dashed after him. “Mr. Olson, I can’t believe this is happening. They’re obviously here to target you, and we’re completely powerless.” Zoe was furious. “Mr. Moore has made the right decision. Plus, this isn’t the first time I’ve taken a break. Anyway, I’m feeling a bit tired lately as well.” As they talked, Zoe abruptly stopped. Leroy was startled and looked up to see Scarlett waiting. Cedric was not with her, which left Leroy stunned. “Why are you here? You can’t take this right now.” “My doctor is leaving, so I won’t have anyone to look after me.” Scarlett smiled, though a hint of regret lingered. Upon hearing this, Leroy was stunned, and even Zoe looked bewildered. Scarlett recognized that she had misspoken and shook her head slowly. “Do you still believe what you did was justified? A meaningless rescue will only encourage these people to push boundaries further.” She looked up and continued, “No one will appreciate your self-righteous kindness.” Leroy experienced a sharp pain in his heart. Meanwhile, Zoe was shocked and felt an overwhelming urge to confront her immediately. “I don’t believe it’s meaningless. At the very least, I helped you stand on your own.” Upon hearing those words, even Zoe was astounded. She stared at Leroy in disbelief. “Mr. Olson…” Zoe felt pity for Leroy, wondering about what he had experienced. Scarlett clutched the armrests of the wheelchair, feeling conflicted. “Ms. Payne, if you don’t respond, I’ll take it as agreement. I believe I did nothing wrong, and I’ll continue behaving as such if the same situation happens again.” Leroy looked determined as Zoe gazed admiringly at him. “Ms. Payne, if there are no more questions, leave now.” With that, Leroy left without another word. Scarlett fell silent. Instead of following Leroy, Zoe turned her gaze toward Scarlett.
