Chapter 68 (33/38)

Dominic cast a cold glance at the subordinate who had barged in unannounced. The man instantly froze, not daring to make a sound.

“I think… I just heard someone call you ‘President’?” Brynn spoke hesitantly on the other end of the phone. She could barely make out what was said, but that didn’t stop her from probing Dominic.

Dominic explained in a gentle tone, “It’s ‘present.’ Someone just told me that the present I sent you has been delivered.”

“Oh… I see.”

“Unless you think I’m the President?” Dominic’s eyes darkened slightly, a trace of amusement flickering in them. “I wouldn’t mind, but unfortunately, I’m not. I still have to live off my salary.”

Hearing that, Brynn nearly choked on her sweet wine.

“Are you saying my wife thinks I’m too incompetent?” Dominic sighed lightly. “That’s my fault.”

“Of course not!” Brynn denied immediately. “I was just asking casually.”

She really hadn’t expected this side of Dominic. So playful… a bit of a tease.

While Brynn marveled at Dominic’s many facets, the subordinate standing silently in the room was completely dumbfounded. The ever-serious President… could look this gentle? If he told someone about this, no one would believe him! Who was he talking to? His girlfriend? Since when did the President have a girlfriend? Wasn’t he famously indifferent to women? The subordinate had been stationed in Eaglemont the entire time and had never been to Portmare, so he had no idea that Dominic was already married. He was utterly stunned by the rare sight of his boss’s tender expression.

“Okay, I won’t keep you,” Brynn said, steering the conversation elsewhere. “It’s getting colder lately—make sure to stay warm.”

“Mm. You too.” Dominic paused briefly before adding, “Brynn, if anything happens, you have to tell me. Don’t carry everything on your own.”

Chapter 68 (1/2)

After ending the call, Dominic’s expression instantly reverted to its usual severity. The subordinate, quickly composing himself, reported respectfully, “We’ve found some leads on the Divine Doctor.”

Dominic’s eyes flickered at the news.

“And it just so happens that their ID is registered in Portmare.”

Portmare… What a coincidence. Brynn’s face surfaced in his mind. According to reports from Formare, she had played a more…inscrutable…patient role. Could it be… that Brynn was the Divine Doctor? It wasn’t that Dominic had an overly glorified perception of her. It was just a gut feeling—one he couldn’t quite quantify.

“The captured criminal claimed that the Divine Doctor is a man in his fifties,” the subordinate continued. “Bream admitted that he hasn’t seen the doctor in a long time!” That meant the trail had gone cold. Apart from a vague age estimate and a general location, they knew nothing—not even a name.

Dominic frowned slightly. “Fifty-something? Are you sure?”

The subordinate was momentarily stunned but then nodded firmly. “Yes, that’s what he said.”

It made sense. A Divine Doctor had to be some old man, right? How could a young person be so skilled in medicine?

“I see. Keep searching for the Divine Doctor,” Dominic gave the order indifferently. At the same time, he dismissed the notion that Brynn could be the doctor. Maybe he really was overthinking it.
