Chapter 77

Hearing the accusation, Kylie panicked. Did he suspect her identity? “M-my master is unpredictable. He disappears without a trace all the time—he’s a real mischievous old man?” She forced out a laugh, stumbling over her words. “Oh… I see.”

Gary remained skeptical. Something about Kylie felt off—or rather, he hoped she was an imposter. Because this woman was nothing like the Divine Doctor’s apprentice he had imagined! The gap was so huge that his admiration for the Divine Doctor was on the verge of crumbling.

Finding an excuse, Gary got up and left for the restroom. Once he was a safe distance away, he immediately called Dr. Caldwell. The call rang for a while before it was answered. “What’s up?”

“I think I might have met a fake Divine Doctor’s apprentice,” Gary was blunt with his longtime friend. “This person is nothing like what I imagined—totally different!”

Dr. Caldwell was momentarily confused. “Huh?”

“The woman I met is completely uncultured—rude and crude.” The more Gary spoke, the more disdain filled his voice. “How could someone like that possibly be the Divine Doctor’s apprentice?”

“Wait, wait—rude and crude? That’s impossible. Ms. Everett is a very polite young woman,” Dr. Caldwell said, finally sensing something was off. “Her manners are impeccable.”

“That’s exactly why I think this one is a fraud,” Gary sighed. “But I don’t want to jump to conclusions or accuse her outright.”

Dr. Caldwell understood immediately. “Alright, I’ll give Ms. Everett a call and feel things out.”

“Thanks. Let me know what she says.”

After hanging up, Dr. Caldwell wasted no time dialing Brynn’s number. The call connected quickly. “Ms. Everett, it’s me.” Dr. Caldwell cleared his throat. “I wanted to ask—have you met my friend yet?”

“Yes, I have,” Brynn replied with a slight smirk. “He’s quite a decent person.”

Hearing this, Dr. Caldwell grew even more confused. If they’d already met, then why—

“But… I think he may have mistaken someone else for me.” She made no attempt to hide the truth and calmly recounted the incident at the staircase. Kylie had been up there for a while now. With her lack of intelligence and weak grasp of deception, she had likely already spilled all her tricks. There was no need for Brynn to keep pretending.

Chapter 77

After hearing everything, Dr. Caldwell finally understood. So that’s why! No wonder Gary had been so taken aback by the woman’s lack of decorum. But seriously… how could Gary have mistaken someone else for Ms. Everett?

Dr. Caldwell felt exasperated. “My apologies for this. I never expected such a mix-up to happen.”

“It’s fine,” Brynn responded graciously. “Just a misunderstanding.”

Meanwhile, back in the private lounge, Kylie’s face lit up as Gary returned. “Mr. Buckman, I ordered some black tea for you—please, have a taste.”

Gary might not have known the whereabouts of the Divine Doctor, but through their conversation, Kylie had gathered that he was a highly regarded figure in the medical community. If she couldn’t find the Divine Doctor, bringing someone like him back might still earn her favor with Eleanor.

But as Kylie fawned over him, Gary simply frowned in response. Just as he was about to speak, his phone rang. He answered, and Dr. Caldwell’s urgent voice came through, “Gary, you were right. That girl is a fraud!”

Gary’s expression changed instantly. Seeing his reaction, Kylie feigned concern. “Mr. Buckman, is something wrong?”

Gary shot her a cold glare before spitting out his words. “You fraud—get out of my sight!”
