Chapter 88
When Mrs. Johnson asked the question, she felt a little embarrassed. She still didn’t know that her son had a quick marriage. But she also knew that, with her and Brynn’s relationship, they weren’t close enough to discuss such personal matters. Hearing Mrs. Johnson’s question, Brynn was momentarily taken aback but quickly understood what she meant.
She couldn’t help but smile wryly before replying. “Thank you for your kind offer, but I actually just got married not long ago!”
Mrs. Johnson was first shocked, then a little disappointed. “Sigh, what a great girl she is, but alas, she’s already taken!”
Brynn smiled and then led Mrs. Johnson and Zoe upstairs. After opening the guest room door, she patiently said, “The guest room has a private bathroom. We don’t have a children’s room, so would you like Zoe to share with you, or should she have a room of her own?”
Mrs. Johnson was about to respond, but Zoe quickly interjected, “I want to stay with mommy!”
Brynn was a bit taken aback. Mrs. Johnson also thought it was a bit forward, saying, “Zoe, that’s impolite. You don’t just ask to sleep in someone else’s room the first time you meet them!”
“Grandma, I really want to stay with mommy,” Zoe said, looking at Mrs. Johnson with pleading eyes before turning to Brynn. “Please, mommy?”
Brynn paused, a mix of surprise and helplessness crossing her face. ‘How many times had I said it? I’m not your mommy…’ Brynn sighed inwardly. “What’s the point of arguing with a child?”
With that thought, Brynn bent down slightly, met Zoe’s eyes, and softly said, “Okay, I’ll let you sleep with me tonight.”
“Yay!” Zoe cheered happily.
“But only tonight,” Brynn added, emphasizing, “And Zoe has to listen to Grandma. You can’t be too spoiled!”
Zoe obediently nodded. “Okay.”
Seeing how Brynn quickly calmed Zoe down, Mrs. Johnson was even more pleased with her. Such a large room, and there wasn’t even a wedding photo. It was clear that Brynn’s husband didn’t care much for her!
With that thought, Mrs. Johnson’s mind started working again. She tentatively asked, “Ms. Everett, I heard you say you and your husband just got married? Shouldn’t a newlywed like him be home with you, instead of being away?”
“He’s busy with work, out on a business trip,” Brynn casually replied.
Mrs. Johnson, hearing this, was even more certain of her thoughts—this Ms. Everett’s husband was truly clueless!
Chapter 88
Who gets married and then immediately goes on a business trip without even taking a honeymoon? And to make matters worse, there wasn’t even a decent photo at home. It was clear that the husband didn’t really care about his wife at all.
As Mrs. Johnson watched Brynn gently remind Zoe about their bedtime, she couldn’t help but feel that Brynn deserved better. What a wonderful girl. How could her husband not appreciate her? So what if she was married? A girl like that, and he couldn’t cherish her. One day, he’d regret it…
“Ms. Everett, it’s the modern age now. If you find your man isn’t reliable, you can always get a divorce,” Mrs. Johnson said with a subtle hint, “There are plenty of fish in the sea. Don’t cling to something that’s not working.”
Hearing the underlying meaning in Mrs. Johnson’s words, Brynn couldn’t help but smile awkwardly. She chuckled and explained, “Mrs. Johnson, my husband and I have a great relationship. He treats me very well, and I really like him. We won’t get a divorce.”
Even though Brynn said this, Mrs. Johnson was still more inclined to believe what she saw with her own eyes. ‘If you had such a good relationship, how could there not even be a wedding photo? Isn’t that a little far-fetched?’ She figured that Brynn just felt too embarrassed to say the truth. After all, they had only just met today, and it wasn’t exactly the right time to talk about married life.
“No worries. I’ll find a chance to introduce Brynn to Dominic. Once Brynn had a comparison, you will surely realize that your husband, who’s always absent, isn’t worth keeping.”
Zoe, overhearing their conversation, tilted her little head in confusion. That’s strange… She had definitely seen a picture of mommy in daddy’s wallet. ‘Mommy’s husband should be daddy, right? So why did mommy say she’s already married to other people?’
