Chapter 89
Although Zoe was full of questions, she didn't ask them. After all, Mommy didn't even want to acknowledge her as her daughter. She was afraid that if she asked, Brynn would be upset.
After Brynn had made sure Mrs. Johnson and Zoe were settled into their rooms for the night, she saw it was getting late and quickly placed an order for essentials and groceries on her phone. Once the order was confirmed, she turned to Mrs. Johnson and Zoe and said, “It’s almost mealtime, and we’re running out of time to cook. I’ve ordered some pasta ingredients. Would it be okay if we have pasta instead?”
Mrs. Johnson didn’t mind at all, and Zoe’s face lit up with excitement. “Yay! We’re having pasta!” She’d been on a strict diet and eating very bland food lately. Pasta was something she had only seen on TV.
“Although it’s pasta, Zoe, today you can only have the plain marinara sauce,” Brynn added with a smile.
Zoe’s little face immediately dropped. “Aww…”
“Be good, Zoe. You just had a blood test today, so you can’t eat anything too rich,” Brynn gently ruffled Zoe’s hair. “In a couple of days, I’ll get you some cupcakes, okay?”
The mention of cupcakes instantly brought a smile back to Zoe’s face. Brynn thought to herself, ‘Children are so easy to please, just a few words and they’re happy again. I just hope Dominic’s daughter is this easy to please too. If not, I really worry I won’t be able to play the role of stepmom well…’
“There’s a phone store nearby, and the food delivery will take a little while. How about I take you both to fix your phones first?”
Mrs. Johnson, feeling touched by Brynn’s thoughtfulness, couldn’t help but feel even more determined to have Brynn as her daughter-in-law.
About half an hour later, after having their phones repaired, Brynn and Mrs. Johnson returned to the villa just as the delivery arrived. Brynn began organizing the pasta ingredients, with Mrs. Johnson and Zoe helping out.
“It’s been so long since I’ve had pasta,” Mrs. Johnson remarked nostalgically. “I’ve really missed it.” Since her son became president, he’d been so busy he barely had time to eat, let alone have a family meal with pasta. Zoe had been in and out of the hospital, so it was just her and her husband at home. Although visitors came often, it still made her feel like something was missing, like the house lacked that true sense of home.

Today, however, was different. For the first time in a while, a warm feeling and lively atmosphere filled the space. The three of them chatted happily while preparing the ingredients for the meal, creating a cozy atmosphere.
Just as they were enjoying their meal, Mrs. Polinson’s phone suddenly rang. She quickly pulled it out and saw it was from her son, Santed. She quickly covered the phone and whispered to Brynn, “I need to take this call.” With that, she hurried to the side.
Brynn casually glanced over, vaguely seeing the incoming call ID. For some reason, she had a strange feeling that the number looked familiar.
“Mom, where are you?”
On the other end of the line, Dominic’s voice sounded a bit exasperated.
Mrs. Johnson huffed. “Oh, now the busy man is finally concerned about me? I thought you didn’t care about your old mom or your daughter.”
“Mom…” Dominic sighed again. “You know how it is with work…”
“Work, work! My ears are about to develop calluses from hearing that all the time,” Mrs. Johnson interrupted unhappily. “Are you trying to be president, or are you just a workhorse with no rest days?”
Dominic paused on the other end of the line, clearly at a loss for words.
“This country’s affairs didn’t exactly allow for time off.”
“Stop talking to me like that. If you’re too busy to take care of us, then hurry up and get married so I can live with your wife!” Hearing his mother suddenly start pushing him to get married made Dominic feel an impending headache.
“Mom, I’ve told you before, it’s not urgent…”
“Not urgent? How old are you?” Mrs. Johnson said, sounding almost like she was scolding him. “Alright, you busy guy has no time to find a partner? That’s fine, I’ve already found someone for you. She’s a great girl, with a nice personality…”
Seeing his mother about to start matchmaking again, Dominic quickly cut her off.
“Mom, please stop matchmaking… I’m already married!”
