Chapter 117
"Good news! Mom has invited us to the Langley family's main villa for dinner tonight!" David announced during breakfast.
Simone and Camille were surprised. "We're going back to the main villa?"
"Yes, Mom called us all," David said excitedly. He seemed to have been anticipating this for a long time. "We haven't been back in over a year. After the company's losses, we were too ashamed. But now, we're back on our feet, working with major Somerton companies. We can finally return with our heads held high."
"Our relatives won't be able to talk trash about us anymore," Camille said with some anger.
"What happened?" Dustin whispered to Simone.
Simone sighed and explained the Langley family's history to Dustin. They were one of Rivenesco's most prestigious families, with extensive business holdings. Margot Langley had three sons, with David being the youngest. He was considered honest but less cunning than his brothers. His marriage to Monique, against his family's wishes, resulted in the family being marginalized and eventually banned from the main villa.
David inherited the family's least profitable business, which was nearly bankrupt. While his integrity prevented him from making a fortune, the company's declining profits only worsened the family's disdain. His current success, therefore, represented a significant turnaround.
"Looks like we finally have their approval," David said with a smile, instructing everyone to prepare for their visit. It was clear he still valued the Langley family's opinion.
"By the way, Dustin, Mom wants you to come too," David added.
Dustin raised an eyebrow. He had never interacted with the Langley family before, and wondered why Margot insisted on his presence.
David and Simone went gift-shopping, and they arrived at the main villa around 3 p.m. Showing respect, David parked and walked with his family to the gate, expecting a welcoming party. However, no one was there. As they reached the gate, they saw a young man exiting.
"Christian, did Mom ask you to greet us? Thank you," David said with a smile.
Christian sneered. "You're assuming too much, Uncle David. I heard a noise and came to check for trespassers," he said coldly.
His harsh words caused frowns.
"Christian is Uncle Derek's son, my cousin," Simone whispered to Dustin.
"We're family. Why treat us like outsiders?" David asked, his tone darkening.
"Is that so?" Christian taunted, looking at Dustin. "Who is he?"
"This is Dustin. Mom asked me to bring him," David replied.
"Grandma said that? I haven't heard anything," Christian's face darkened. "Our family has valuable possessions. You wouldn't be able to compensate for any loss."
Christian then produced a sign from behind the door and placed it at the entrance: “[Dogs and anyone with the surname "Fox" are not allowed entry!]”
This blatant insult angered Dustin. Margot had invited him, yet he was barred and insulted. He couldn't recall ever offending the Langley family.
"Christian, you've gone too far!" Simone shouted angrily.
"Exactly! Does Grandma know you're doing this? You'll be punished!" Camille warned.
Christian merely sneered. "Getting into our house isn't easy. Becoming family is even harder!"
Dustin frowned, wondering if the Langley family considered him Simone's fiancé.
"What do you mean, Christian? Dustin isn't" Simone started to protest, her face reddening.
Christian impatiently and mockingly interrupted, "Anyone entering our house needs social standing. Dustin is Wyatt family trash, powerless. He wants in? Ha! He's unworthy! If he really wants in, he can go through here." He spread his legs wide, indicating Dustin should crawl between them.
"Well? Are you going to?" Christian challenged.
Dustin's face was cold, his gaze fierce. The Langley family had summoned him only to insult him.
"Christian, you're out of line! I'll demand an explanation from Mom!" David fumed.
"I can handle this, David," Dustin interrupted, walking forward with a dark expression.
Christian, not perceiving Dustin as a threat, scoffed. If Dustin were a true Wyatt son, he'd be fawning; being an adopted, discarded son made him unworthy of respect.
"If you're crawling, hurry up. I want to eat," Christian said impatiently.
"You're bold," Dustin stated.
"What?" Christian didn't hear him clearly.
"Few dare to be so ignorant in my presence," Dustin said coolly.
Christian's mockery intensified. "Ha! You think you're important? Still a Wyatt son? You're not even worthy of cleaning my shoes! You have no right to talk to me like that! You think you're amazing? Who do you think you are, you useless piece of trash—"
Before Christian finished, Dustin's gaze turned icy.
Boom!
The sign shattered. Christian was hurled backward, crashing through the gate into the courtyard. Simone and her family were stunned. Dustin calmly walked through the gate.
Christian, eventually rising, felt his bones shattered. Furious, he screamed, "You bastard! I'll kill you!"
