Chapter 59

Dustin's face remained unchanged.

"Thirty million dollars," he shouted. "Thirty-five million dollars!" "Forty million dollars!" "Forty-five million dollars!"

Determined to outbid Dustin, Michael consistently topped his offer. Everyone watched in shock as the bidding war escalated. Simone looked alarmed, but she didn't intervene. 'He must have a plan,' she thought, trying to calm her nerves. But could Dustin truly afford that much money? Was it worth spending so much on Clara's calligraphy?

"Fifty million dollars!" Michael's face contorted with a vicious expression. Even though he was rich, he was reaching his limit. He had already bid on several other works, spending nearly one hundred million dollars in total. It wasn't that he couldn't pay; it was that he anticipated a severe lecture upon returning home after spending so much on arguably less valuable items.

"Sixty million dollars," Dustin said calmly.

"You!" Michael, livid and seething with rage, dared not bid further. He huffed, flinging his hands to his sides. "I want to see if you can really cough up sixty million dollars!"

Clara pointedly looked at Dustin from the stage. "Deliver my calligraphy to Mr. Fox," she said with a grin. "Let's all congratulate Mr. Fox!"

The hall erupted in applause, though many attendees sneered.

Spending sixty million dollars on one of Clara's works could be interpreted as a display of wealth, but to most, it seemed utterly foolish. Did Dustin possess such vast wealth that he didn't know what else to do with it?

When the calligraphy was presented, Dustin picked it up indifferently and then hurled it to the floor. The frame shattered into a million pieces.
