Collin himself didn’t care about the gossip at all. The more attention it got in the country, the higher Hurricane Media’s stock would rise upon returning to the domestic market. For a businessman, that level of gossip was actually beneficial.
But everyone who wanted to curry favor with or look into Collin found no way to start with him directly, so they could only try looking into Collin’s lover. After digging around, they discovered that even the name was fake.
“I used the name Jasper at Hurricane Media. Jasper Frost. Collin made the arrangement for me.”
At the celebration banquet for the Summit Infirmary securing the new drug endorsement from Wind Pharmaceuticals, Chris only invited a few people he had recently grown close with. It was still the same private room at the Cosmos. The group handling business was in the room next door; here, it was just the closest friends.
“No wonder,” Chris chuckled. “I heard from Jessica that when Michael couldn’t get results from his own investigation, he asked Jessica for help. In the end, she gave him someone called Frost. I was still wondering who that was.”
The identity was real–everything abroad, even his movements, were legitimate–but he had just used a different name. Given how little the Hall family knew about Jaden, even if they saw a photo, they wouldn’t recognize him, let alone if he had changed his name.
“Luke and Michael had a fight back at the Hilton family’s residence. Luke said that because Michael caused trouble, he missed out on getting the rights. That was why you were able to get the new drug endorsement.”
Jessica returned from the room next door, having handled business matters in Chris’s place. Nina wasn’t surprised at all. “Those two were bound to turn against each other eventually. This time, they just used Chris as an excuse.”
When they had nearly finished eating, Roy arrived late. Upon entering and seeing Collin, he paused for a moment. When he saw Jaden sitting beside Collin and remembered his identity, he found it even more intriguing.
“The person the Hall family has been desperately searching for abroad is just sitting here among a group of elites, and not a single one of them recognizes you. Seems like you really don’t look like your father.”
Jaden had heard quite a bit about Roy. He raised his glass toward him in a toast from across the table. “Of course. I look mostly like my mother–especially the eyes, they’re almost exactly the same as hers. But my father kept my mother well hidden; no one from the Hall family ever saw her.”
So from the beginning, he and his mother had been kept entirely out of the picture. It had all been for their safety.
“Let’s get to the point.” Roy didn’t bother with food. His expression turned serious as he looked at Chris. “I might need your help. Do you remember that girl, Mandy, from Room 316 you mentioned last time?”
“I remember,” Chris nodded. “What happened?”
“She’s been kidnapped.”
As soon as Roy finished speaking, everyone in the room was shocked. Chris instinctively looked at Jessica. Jessica had clearly arranged for someone to follow Mandy. How could she have been kidnapped?
Jessica was momentarily stunned. “I had Calum go abroad to help me track someone. He left just yesterday…”
“She was kidnapped last night.”
It must have been late at night. Mandy, still not fully recovered from her injuries, went downstairs for reasons unknown and was kidnapped. This morning, her family received a call from the kidnappers.
“How much do they want? If I remember correctly, the Milton family is just an ordinary family. They’d struggle to come up with even 200 thousand dollars,” asked Nina.
Roy shook her head. “The kidnappers don’t want money. They want a hard drive.”
Mandy was a journalist–an international correspondent. She traveled between Yelia and Lonat, reporting on many insider issues. Over half of them were related to the pharmaceutical industry.
Initially, Chris believed that Megan looking at Room 316 had nothing to do with this. But after reading Mandy’s reports, he suddenly realized–Mandy might be Megan’s next target.
