Chapter 264
The hall was too dark, and outside, the rain kept falling endlessly.
Actually, they didn’t dare to go out much; they were trapped here, feeling as if their breaths were all tangled together, suffocating to the point of desperation, wanting to open a window for some fresh air.
“Where we are is very safe. The landslide is far away. The only problem now is the power outage, plus we don’t have enough food,” Jessica said first, calling a meeting with everyone.
“We’ll conserve our food. Two meals a day will be enough to last for two days. I believe the nearby rescue teams will arrive within two days. As long as we have water, we’ll live.”
The project team gathered together, noisily arguing about something unknown.
Anthony rarely spoke, but Linda, who had been following Anthony since yesterday, even sneaked into Anthony’s room at night, seemingly wanting to spend the night together.
Linda showed a lot of hostility towards Indya, rolling her eyes every time she saw her, which made Indya feel helpless.
If she had known it would be like this, she wouldn’t have come on this inspection trip and wouldn’t have caused him so much trouble.
“Anthony, do you think we’ll be okay?” Linda leaned on Anthony’s side, almost pressing her entire body against his arm, her soft chest tightly against him.
Anthony instinctively looked toward Indya and tried to push Linda away.
“Don’t worry, Ms. Wilder said as long as we have water, we can hold on. Plus, this platform is very safe. The rescue teams will come within two days. There’s no need to follow me; I’m going for a cigarette.”
Fortunately, before Indya left on the trip, she had stuffed a pack of cigarettes into her suitcase.
She found an empty, quiet corner and sat on the stairs. The lighter’s flame flickered briefly, and the thick smell of tobacco filled the air. Indya’s mind relaxed for a moment, finally easing from the tension.
The fire exit door opened, and without looking up, Indya knew who it was.
Anthony stood in front of her, leaning against the wall, lighting a cigarette for himself as well.
“Indya, if today is our last day, I’m glad to be with you. Even if we can’t reconcile while alive, at least when we die…”
“You’re crazy!” Indya snapped impatiently, lifting her head to look at Anthony. “What makes you think I want to die with you? I’d like to live, thank you very much.”
Anthony paused. “I’m just saying…”
“You’re such bad luck.” Indya puffed out some smoke, which drifted and dispersed before Anthony’s eyes.
“At least it’s me who’s by your side right now. What about the others?” Anthony studied Indya’s dark and unclear expression, then slowly squatted down. “You don’t have any other choice, do you? Can that person be by your side anytime? Or is it like before, where even though you were together, you barely saw each other all month?”
“So what?” Indya retorted. “The person I like, even if I don’t see him for a month, or even a whole year, he wouldn’t make the same choice as you. Anthony, there’s no excuse for cheating. Don’t try to use those excuses from back then to fool me. I was young back then, not stupid.”
She flicked the cigarette butt on the ground and crushed it harshly, then pushed Anthony away and left.
Jessica stayed with Shannon. Because of the power outage in the building, computers and phones couldn’t be turned on. Even if they wanted to use satellite communication to contact the outside world, it was impossible. Now they could only wait.
Shannon saw Indya come out from the fire exit. Not long before, Anthony seemed to have gone over as well.
Shannon didn’t pay much attention to Anthony, only worrying about Indya’s feelings.
