Chapter 64
Michael was greedy and never satisfied.
Jessica sneered coldly in her heart but kept a calm expression on her face.
โMichael, you know the entertainment company under the Hall family isnโt top-tier in the industry, while Wilder Jewelry ranks in the global top five. Iโm a businesswomanโgiving you the entry-level line is already generous. The luxury line was decided long ago.โ
Seeing Jessicaโs displeased expression, Michael quickly said, โThatโs not what I meant. I just hope to make more achievements so I can help you in the future. Since thatโs the case, Iโll follow your arrangement.โ
Today was only to settle details, not to sign a contract, so Jessica wasnโt in a hurry.
โDo you have a meeting at noon? Let me treat you to lunch,โ Michael asked with a smile.
Jessica didnโt answer. Maggie knocked and came in, first glancing at Michael, then turning to Jessica. โMr. Green is here. He said he brought lunch for you, Ms. Wilder, and is waiting in the office.โ
โChris is here!โ Jessicaโs eyes lit up. โLooks like he knows to apologize now.โ
Jessica was very pleased.
But in front of Michael, she still had to keep up appearances. She frowned and asked impatiently, โWhy is he here again?โ
Michael naturally played the good guy and hurriedly grabbed Jessicaโs arm. โCalm down. Arenโt you guys in a partnership? Playing along wonโt hurt, we canโt let the shareholders see any problems. You go ahead, Iโll head back now.โ
With that, Michael picked up his laptop and left.
Jessica didnโt rush back to the office.
โHowโs the investigation going? Where did the woman who didnโt show up that day go?โ
From a distance, the moment Michaelโs figure disappeared as the elevator doors closed, Jessicaโs expression instantly turned cold.
Originally, she was there to watch the show. She thought that Jordanโs mother would definitely make an appearance, but she didnโt see the woman even after the end of the banquet.
Only after asking Calum did she learn the woman had indeed left the hotel, but no one knew where she went.
Now the person had vanished right under their nosesโthey had to find her quickly.
โWeโre searching,โ Shannon said softly, fearing to anger Jessica. โShe probably knew Michael was going to act, so she ran away that day. As long as sheโs alive, weโll find her.โ
Jessica stood at the door staring toward the office, her fingers twitching slightly. โAs soon as possible. The dead are no use to us.โ
โYes, Ms. Wilder.โ
While Jessica was away, Chris helped tidy up many things on her desk. Usually, Jessica was busy and didnโt like the cleaning staff to move her things around; documents and pens were scattered everywhere. Chris wasnโt afraid of getting scolded, so he took the chance to organize.
One document lay open in the center. Chris picked it up to close it and saw his own name.
It was the report Shannon had investigated about Michael hiring online trolls, clearly stating Michael deliberately targeted Chris to escalate the situation.
He quietly read for a while, then closed it and set it aside.
Actually, he wasnโt surprised.
Michaelโs hostility toward him was already quite obviousโjust buying online trolls, not going as far as trying to kill him, was somewhat merciful.
Chris glanced at the time, then took out the food and set it up.
When Jessica came in, she immediately saw his gentle profile and her heart softened. The anger she had held two days ago also faded quite a bit.
But she still walked in with a dark face.
โWhy are you bringing me lunch?โ Jessica asked as she sat down.
Chris smiled and handed her the cutlery. โI know youโve had meetings all day and probably didnโt have time to eat. Iโll have lunch with you and then leave.โ
Jessica snorted, but her body was honestโshe picked up the cutlery and began to eat.
She had only drunk a cup of coffee that morning in a rush, and after several meetings, her head was a bit dizzy. If she didnโt eat soon, she would probably faint in the afternoon.
