The last note faded, and Alarieka’s hands were shaking badly. She called softly, “Mom…” Tamika turned around and grabbed her hand: “Let’s go.” “Wait.” Kieran’s voice was lower, but there was a playful, mocking laugh in it. Alarieka turned around and saw Kieran standing in front of her with a document in his hand. It was a notice from the police station. Alarieka clearly saw her name on the notice, and it really did ask her to go to the police station to cooperate with the investigation. There was a cold look in Kieran’s narrow black eyes: “Right now, you’re still a suspect. You need to come with me to the police station.”

I’ll tell you what happened when I get back.” When she finished speaking, she turned to look at Kieran, her eyes clear and calm. “I’ll go with you.” After she got in the car with Kieran, he really did take her to the police station. She cooperated with the police and answered a lot of their questions. One of the cops raised his eyebrows when he heard she didn’t really know Rhett and said, “But Rhett said he knew you well.” Alarieka was calm: “What evidence is there? I barely even talked to him, and all our classmates could prove it.” The police kept asking her, “So, you didn’t tell Rhett to hurt or molest Roschelle?” Alarieka answered simply, “No.” The police nodded and kept writing something in his notebook. “Rhett told on you to us, said you were jealous of Roschelle and made him do something indecent to Roschelle.” Alarieka didn’t move a muscle, staying calm as ever: “Where’s the evidence?”

The police nodded with deep feeling: “There really wasn’t any evidence, but Rhett said he liked you and was willing to do anything for you without asking for anything in return.” Alarieka just said, “Show me the evidence.” Alarieka came out of the interrogation room. Kieran was sitting on the bench by the door, legs crossed, hands clasped on his knees, eyes closed. His face looked even sharper and smoother under the light. She didn’t come closer. Instead, she stood about two meters away from Kieran and said, “Can I go now?” Kieran slowly opened his eyes, and his long, dark eyes looked at her without any emotion. Behind her, the cop who came out with her told her, “Rhett wants to see you.” Alarieka paused for a moment and said, “Okay.” But in just one day, Rhett had totally changed. He looked haggard and messy, with dark stubble on his chin and dark circles under his eyes, like he hadn’t slept all night. Alarieka’s first sentence was: “You aren’t doing well.” Rhett seemed afraid to look her in the eyes, his hands nervously twisting together, head down: “Just confess, turn yourself in now and maybe get a lighter sentence; the Argent family won’t let us go.” When speaking, Kieran and the cops were all watching from behind, and they could hear everything. Alarieka gave a sarcastic smirk: “Who told you to do this, Calvin? Or was it Roschelle?” Rhett suddenly looked up and grinned, “You made me do it.” The two just talked past each other. Alarieka said, “If I started checking your parents’ or your family and friends’ bank accounts, would it be easier to find out the truth?” Rhett got a bit emotional: “What does it have to do with them? Leave them alone!” Alarieka still didn’t pay attention to him and chuckled, “Did I guess right?” Such a childish mind; he didn’t say much and already gave it away. Alarieka went on, “You saw me just to say this?” Rhett’s face twisted for a moment, then he growled, “Alarieka, just turn yourself in! Stop struggling!” Alarieka stood up from the chair, turned around, and left. After she came out, she told the police, “You can check the bank accounts or assets under the names of Rhett’s family and friends; maybe you’ll find an answer.”
