Listen to this chapter:

The last note faded, and Alariekaโ€™s hands were shaking badly. She called softly, โ€œMomโ€ฆโ€ Tamika turned around and grabbed her hand: โ€œLetโ€™s go.โ€ โ€œWait.โ€ Kieranโ€™s voice was lower, but there was a playful, mocking laugh in it. Alarieka turned around and saw Kieran standing in front of her with a document in his hand. It was a notice from the police station. Alarieka clearly saw her name on the notice, and it really did ask her to go to the police station to cooperate with the investigation. There was a cold look in Kieranโ€™s narrow black eyes: โ€œRight now, youโ€™re still a suspect. You need to come with me to the police station.โ€

It just went on and on. Alarieka also wanted to clear her name and prove her innocence. Tamika heard the words โ€œpolice stationโ€ and immediately shouted, โ€œWhat police station? We didnโ€™t know about it. Donโ€™t try to fool me with this stuff.โ€ Alarieka hadnโ€™t told Tamika about the events of the previous night, and Tamika didnโ€™t know what was at stake. She grabbed Tamikaโ€™s wrist: โ€œMom, Iโ€™ll come back after I take care of it, donโ€™t worry, itโ€™s fine.โ€ Tamika's brow was wrinkled: โ€œWhat does this mean? Why does the police station want you to go? Is something wrong?โ€ Alarieka comforted Tamika by patting the back of her hand: โ€œMom, itโ€™s okay, I know I did nothing wrong. Iโ€™ll tell you what happened when I get back.โ€ When she finished speaking, she turned to look at Kieran, her eyes clear and calm. โ€œIโ€™ll go with you.โ€ After she got in the car with Kieran, he really did take her to the police station. She cooperated with the police and answered a lot of their questions. One of the cops raised his eyebrows when he heard she didnโ€™t really know Rhett and said, โ€œBut Rhett said he knew you well.โ€ Alarieka was calm: โ€œWhat evidence is there? I barely even talked to him, and all our classmates could prove it.โ€ The police kept asking her, โ€œSo, you didnโ€™t tell Rhett to hurt or molest Roschelle?โ€ Alarieka answered simply, โ€œNo.โ€ The police nodded and kept writing something in his notebook. โ€œRhett told on you to us, said you were jealous of Roschelle and made him do something indecent to Roschelle.โ€ Alarieka didnโ€™t move a muscle, staying calm as ever: โ€œWhereโ€™s the evidence?โ€

The police nodded with deep feeling: โ€œThere really wasnโ€™t any evidence, but Rhett said he liked you and was willing to do anything for you without asking for anything in return.โ€ Alarieka just said, โ€œShow me the evidence.โ€ Alarieka came out of the interrogation room. Kieran was sitting on the bench by the door, legs crossed, hands clasped on his knees, eyes closed. His face looked even sharper and smoother under the light. She didnโ€™t come closer. Instead, she stood about two meters away from Kieran and said, โ€œCan I go now?โ€ Kieran slowly opened his eyes, and his long, dark eyes looked at her without any emotion. Behind her, the cop who came out with her told her, โ€œRhett wants to see you.โ€ Alarieka paused for a moment and said, โ€œOkay.โ€ But in just one day, Rhett had totally changed. He looked haggard and messy, with dark stubble on his chin and dark circles under his eyes, like he hadnโ€™t slept all night. Alariekaโ€™s first sentence was: โ€œYou arenโ€™t doing well.โ€ Rhett seemed afraid to look her in the eyes, his hands nervously twisting together, head down: โ€œJust confess, turn yourself in now and maybe get a lighter sentence; the Argent family wonโ€™t let us go.โ€ When speaking, Kieran and the cops were all watching from behind, and they could hear everything. Alarieka gave a sarcastic smirk: โ€œWho told you to do this, Calvin? Or was it Roschelle?โ€ Rhett suddenly looked up and grinned, โ€œYou made me do it.โ€ The two just talked past each other. Alarieka said, โ€œIf I started checking your parentsโ€™ or your family and friendsโ€™ bank accounts, would it be easier to find out the truth?โ€ Rhett got a bit emotional: โ€œWhat does it have to do with them? Leave them alone!โ€ Alarieka still didnโ€™t pay attention to him and chuckled, โ€œDid I guess right?โ€ Such a childish mind; he didnโ€™t say much and already gave it away. Alarieka went on, โ€œYou saw me just to say this?โ€ Rhettโ€™s face twisted for a moment, then he growled, โ€œAlarieka, just turn yourself in! Stop struggling!โ€ Alarieka stood up from the chair, turned around, and left. After she came out, she told the police, โ€œYou can check the bank accounts or assets under the names of Rhettโ€™s family and friends; maybe youโ€™ll find an answer.โ€
